Kicking off

I think that's his point mate. The police presence is to reassure people and to stop any inkling of bother. We don't realistically need them for games other than derbies but it's nice to have that security whereas West Ham, with their notoriety for bother at the new ground, have next to none.
Who's point is that mate?

@Behind Enemy Lines said "There are lots of police around the away end at SOL though. Didn't see any at Olympic Stadium or whatever it's called."

To which you responded with the comment I responded to in turn. I may have misunderstood your post though so apologies if that's the case!

Do you think if there wasn't police there, that Sunderland fans would be getting stuck into the away fans every week.

When we played them in an early kick off, in the cup a few years back, me and my mate stopped a few toe rag SAFC braying a young, pissed West Ham lad who was doing nowt but look happy after their win. We told the scrotes to fuck off and leave him alone, which they did.
He ended up finding his mates and they all bought us a pint in the Wheatsheaf.
It seems, cheap prices and being situated in an a hell hole of an area has brought all of these Green Street, inspired scumbags out to try and display their machismo at this new stadium.

Would love to see them travel away to the likes of here, Boro and Man Utd and try the same.

I'm not even going to try to defend the small number of total tools involved.

However to make out that West Ham have a higher proportion of idiot fans than any other team is a load of balls.

I was on Hackney Wick station after the game and there was plenty of Sunderland fans mixed up with us Hammers and not a sniff of trouble.

The issue is because of the ground layout the exits are not segregated in any way which means the stupid and/or drunk pillocks can get very close to the away fans.

I think the only answer for games against Spurs, Chelsea and god forbid a cup tie against Millwall is to keep home fans in for 20 minutes after the game to let the away fans disperse.

A shit excuse. Up there with Leeds as the biggest amount of wankers. Bunch of Green Street wannabes. Most of them looked mid to late 20s so no excuse saying it is just daft kids.

If these lads want to really have a fight then it should be arranged with like minded opposition away from the ground. Families and old men should not have to fear their safety, they are an embarrassing.

Oh wait, they tried that up here a few years back at Revolution and got their arses handed to them!

On the train home I heard a Boro fan saying they will be out for revenge in January when the Hammers visit them.

Absolutely spot-on mate. These hard men weren't so brave when they were trying to lock themselves in Revolution. As you say, a few team's lads will be seeking retribution and, if the same happens to their 'normal' fans as they're exposing others to then, they'll be the first to cry.

Just recalled walking back toward the coach there was a mouthy cockney clearly goading people shouting some shit about a smaller Noocarsel - a couple of coppers nearby were letting a couple of them do this without a word. Seconds later several plod came running past as there seemed bother up ahead looking round a few hammers were looking to intimidate but found people just ignoring them or telling them to fuck off. As we got to the coaches, some steward advised us to go on the path side rather than the road as there was bother ahead. There was more bother on the path side leading up to an embankment where a few verbals were being exchanged and the coppers had ran to. Including one on horseback which was gannin' crackers.

Around the coaches seemed to be up there with right outside the exits as favoured spots. After what happened with the Boro lads, I noticed there were SAFC surrounding the coaches ensuring supporters got back safely. This couldn't have been arranged as the coppers and stewards couldn't have worked it out. They were too busy videoing all incidents rather than preventing or attending them.

I'd like to think when we asked people to stick together, watch your backs and look out for one another was the reason for this but it had to be said when intimidation was confronted they just didn't want to know. 1-0 to the scarfers! Hurrah.

When we got directed to walk past the away buses to Stratford international, a copper shouted "I want 6 men up on the bank" as it was kicking off ~ about 20 police who were stood on the path opposite the buses ran up, leaving 1 steward per bus, they looked absolutely petrified and totally useless if anything kicked off.

At most grounds home and away fans mingle as they leave, with virtually no trouble. How is it that there has been trouble at all of your home games this season? Seems to me that it's very inadequate policing allowing this to happen, while filming it. The sad thing is that innocent away fans forced to defend themselves could end up in trouble because of this filming.

Spoke to a mate ( spurs fan) who knows Boro lads and the boro lad said they had a pop at West Ham and done ok.

Not grassing any fucker especially the coach hoppers - glad there's no video evidence of the few skirmishes or the thick steward advising us to stick to the pavement as they couldn't control the road.

Anyway the Met have loads of it filmed as they did that rather than prevent what was happening.

I thought it was a canny day out even if some of our party were disgusted, shocked and worried. I told them that's how it was, only worse in the 80s where a few digs would be expected. Loads of mouthing off by cockernees but never backed up.

Not a mobile phone in site.

If they go on like that against Chelsea the old Chelsea lot will destory them.
