"I don’t mind admitting I wanted Connor Wickham from Sunderland," said Allardyce. "He was underperforming for them, but I felt we would play to his strengths and he would get us goals and assists the way Kevin Davies did for Bolton."

Quite fantastic, we sell Wickham about 2 months before bringing in the one manager who wanted to play to his supposed strengths... *sigh*

direct quotes from Sakho there -

“But then the deal began to fall through as the coach was having doubts and I was resigned to returning to France.

“Fortunately for me, Mr Sullivan stepped in and said he would be signing me and on a permanent deal. It was the chance I needed."

'I have always wanted to play in England and when West Ham came in for me in the summer, I thought that was it,' said Sakho.

'I had heard QPR didn't want me so I wanted to prove I could do it. West Ham gave me the chance and now the coach Mr Allardyce believes in me too.

'I'm enjoying it and scoring goals against Liverpool and Manchester United shows I can play at this level. I'm just glad Mr Sullivan put his trust in me.'

Allardyce wanted to sign Wicham off hyou lot for more than double the price instead -

"I don’t mind admitting I wanted Connor Wickham from Sunderland," said Allardyce. "He was underperforming for them, but I felt we would play to his strengths and he would get us goals and assists the way Kevin Davies did for Bolton."

"Sunderland wouldn’t play ball though, despite us being encouraged to go for it by his agent who was sure they would let him leave for £8million. It turned out that wasn’t the case," he added.

Naaa, Naaa lost in translation, Suits the we play the wist am way agenda.....which translates too we've won fook all since 1966

strange that the story is from October last year when things were going great

You mean won fook all since 66 apart from the 2 FA Cups I assume?

That's pretty irrelevant now. It was becoming obvious that he wanted away, and was looking towards London. His agent was touting him around before we sold him.

Thankfully we were spared watching him another year failing at it and we might get someone in suitable to play the role instead, because Wickham isn't capable of playing as a centre forward in the way Davies did, if as a centre forward at all.
