Blair Adams is a name that just came back to me for whatever reason. A natural left back - basically impossible to find for us - and he doesn't get a single game here. First team player for Coventry; not the greatest standard, but Villa have signed players Adams's age from that division for their first team.

For whatever reason (I think a lot of it is the pressure at the bottom of the table and the managerial chopping and changing), there's no real path between the development squad and the first team unless the dev squad is being used to punish recalcitrant first teamers or keep Ondrej Celustka fit. Maybe we wouldn't need to pay the likes of Celustka and Dossena to hardly play if there was more of a path.

Agree 100% , i stood next to a SAFC scout a few week ago, he said" he looks good" the biggest 12 year old on the pitch, however he failed to notice the little right winger who scored all 4 goals, when I pointed out his quality I was told "too small"

that right there is another point, people like ball and mcnamee might have been good 10 years ago but football has moved on, sure there was a thread as well about how the academy conducts itself....one kid and his dad made to wait an hour at reception i think

Magnificent deployment of the word recalcitrant, I adore a smidgen on unnecessary verbosity.

Shite would have covered it like.

I agree, it would be great if RFL, the academies and District FA sat down and tried to ensure they didn't clash as much. That way youth teams wouldn't need to worry about losing kids every season depending upon they were picked for the district or an academy.

And whilst I accept they're not 'made' to leave to join an academy, I do know of kids who were encouraged to quit youth teams.

I know, I've done it. Club policy at some places. And usually parents are that pleased their kids are at an Academy they don't know the rules or question anything.
