Fire the lot, stealing a good living from the club

Playing staff issues aside - off the pitch that would be my absolute first starting point this summer. Hopefully Congerton does so
Hamburg look like they could go down all that looks good.

Agree. The 1st team are the tip of the pyramid. If the base is weak it filters upwards.*

*Worst analogy of my life probably.

That maybe case mate, but it's not the best and they cannot expect the same kid to come back when they change their mind.

I agree, but if you step outside the 'elite' first teams the development sections below are like cattle markets. In the years from 6 to 12 they apparently churn through hundreds of kids.
Just thinking again I actually know of loads more released this way. A few years ago Newcastle released 30 or 40 kids from the development section in one night with letters for everyone. Some invited back, others released.
The coach began the process of handing out letters with the words "sorry about this, but we all know this isn't a youth club it's a business".

The kids were 8 or 9...

Not defending this at all by the way, just saying what I was told.

Is that person high up ged Mcnamee??

Worst person for nepotism is Steve Bruce, I think Sunderland is the only club that Fat head had his son at.

No it's not mate, though I can see why you came to that conclusion.
His son is at the academy , which is no surprise , and apparently isn't very good so read into that what you wish.

I mentioned on another thread about academy. My nephew was there (small for his age, but very technical and cracking left foot). He was let go via letter (not face to face with his Mam or Dad). Anyway few months later they now want him back as he has grown a little. He's now very happy training with Middlesborough & C**tcastle, so has gassed SAFC off. Another lad who plays for same team 9Goalkeeper) was invited to AOL and left waiting with his dad for 45 minutes in reception. Both are massive SAFC fans and he now has joined NUFC and just been invited to the elite squad.

Very worrying if you ask me, the whole place needs to be looked at.

Omg my lad played for an academy but although only 10 he'd never pull on a black n white shirt. Whatever happened to principles, lol. Only joking mate, I hope he does well.[DOUBLEPOST=1396993967][/DOUBLEPOST]Most academies give general coaching and not specific to a players position. The one my son was at did that and played him totally out of position sometimes to see how he'd react. They hardly played games so players could master their position just drill after drill. Mad! I got my level 2 FA badge a few years ago but I'm sure things aint changed that much.
I reckon I'll start a 'Landor academy' be better than the rate of players most academies churn out...

That needs sorting a.s.a.p

Hope someone wrote to the Senior Management.

With respect, I dont think the senior management are that self aware tbh. Footballs a great place to be if you can get in or are an ex player.
jobs for the boys...

do you mean Ged has his son at the academy or the bloke you're talking about also has his son at the academy

Disgusting how they let young players go just because of their height.
This is true and absolutely crazy. One of coaches told me that they released a lad last year at age 15 who was technically the best player they have ever had at the academy - for the sole reason that he was 5 foot 6

It's hard to believe, but that's what he told me

Chelsea would be knackered if they only played 6 footers[DOUBLEPOST=1397021231][/DOUBLEPOST]

You do have to ask what has been going on down there don't you. Where is all the fruits of the hard work and expertise.?
It's almost as if they've only built a grade 1 status academy to keep getting the huge annual income from the FA and UEFA that comes with that category isnt it.
My 12 year old Sunderland mad son is at the Chesterfield FC academyy, a grade 3', Chesterfield. They get £ 500k a season from the football league every time they pass the annual audit.
It's reportedly £5m per year for a grade 1

As we have no interest in the FA Cup then we don't need any little fellas to lift it any more

You don't get it do you. The academy IS A SUCCESS. Lord knows where this board obsession has come from recently, that it is not. Very few academies have a better record than ours. As you have personal experience of Chesterfield, how many of their academy graduates are playing in the premier league at the moment? We have two (or does McCartney make it three, can't remember if he was academy).

Countless more playing professionally elsewhere.

If you have higher expectations, they are unrealistic.

I don't think so mate. At the time the lad was already training with Newcastle, so they just stuck with them. As I said, now in elite squad and playing tournaments against other academies. He's now at age though, going to have to stop playing Russell Foster, school football and even kick abouts with his mates. Play for the academy and nobody else.

Southampton's obviously but struggling to name any others so if Southampton can make it wotk why can't others. Southampton area is not exactly a hotbed of soccer.
Southamptons catchment area is massive compared to ours, they are the only big club in the area whereas we have us, NUFC, Boro. Agree we could do more tho

Every club is looking for that 1 golden nugget that will provide the club with some serious money when sold on.
Over the last few years how many kids that have come through the local clubs , are still with that club and would sell now for over say 5 million ?
Answer - zero.
The academies simply look to nurture and sell on for a good profit
