Keith Curle

Northampton manager just got them promoted.

Anyone hear his views on the Rooney rule and black managers etc.

Only black person I've heard speak sense regarding this situation. Saying he wouldn't want an interview or job just becasue of the colour of his skin, would want it on merit. Spot on.

Few other good points he made aswell, saying the exact opposite of all them other taties like Sol Campbell etc.

Well done Keith. Respect

I'm pretty sure (and happy to be corrected here) that the Rooney Rule isn't about giving someone a job because of the colour of their skin, it's more about making sure BAME candidates at least get an interview (or a certain % of BAME applicants are interviewed). Many cannot even get a foot in the door, so the Rooney Rule is to guarantee a certain % of applicants are BAME but the job is still given to the best candidate

Aye that is the premise - they have to be qualified still for the role.

I think some feel it is just grabbing random black lads off the street.

Problem is how do you appoint someone on merit if the chairman is racist?

There needs to be a standardised process where chairmen are forced to document why a manager was appointed.

Then managers can challenge if they believe race was why they weren't appointed.

There’s a subtly different attitude with other generations of black players. Heard Kevin Campbell and John Barnes speaking similarly.
Spot on aswell. Said he'd turn a job or interview down if he was offered one just becasue of the colour of his skin. Said he's managed in 4 different divisions and it's been becasue he was good enough to do that no matter what colour he is. We need more people of Keith's mentality imo

Have these black people even done their badges etc. To warrant an interview who knows

The idea is that it evens the playing field for suitably qualified individuals. Having, or working towards the badges will be one of the accepted criteria for any serious applicant.

Barnes had two opportunities in club management his first job only most people would dream about and he blew it on both occassions there are loads of ex-managers who only get 1 or 2 chances at the end of the day Chairman want to see some sort of previous success if you cant see that then how can you appoint someone. Always thought Kevin Campbell had something about him to be a manager if he wanted to be.
There a very few British managers in the Premier league to begin with so its aĺways going to be difficult no matter your race but if you look at those getting opportunities they have generally been very loyal at a club during there playing days or often take assistant managers jobs etc as a stepping stone.

Charlie and Stew would have needed new pens to write down all the glowing reasons we appointed Parky!

What makes you think chairmen are racist?
