O'Shea is the most professional footballer I know. Disgraceful that you are calling him part of a rotten core. I admire O'Shea for what he's achieved in the game and what he's done for us while he's been here, our best defender since he signed. Reliable and always gives 100%. A class act.

Fuck off.

This. Not sure what agenda the op has?

If he doesn't start against Swansea then there'll be absolutely no doubt that him and Advocaat have fallen out. Not especially a big fan of him as a player but Kaboul and Coates have been disgracefully bad so far.

Seeing as the full backs are often AWOL I don't think Terry and Adams wouldn't have made much difference, maybe radical but bring in O'Shea alongside both, move the FB's to WB's and have a go at that, 3 games 3 formations, they'll never suss us out!
I think its worth a pop

If we are not going to use O'Shea then

a) we need to sell him

b) we need to buy a good centre half who can come in and take over the captaincy

Also, if Cattermole is not going to be happy playing under another captain then

a) we need to sell him

b) we need yet another quality midfielder, that's two now.

Also, now the season is underway Dick needs to start picking the team based upon performances which means Catts has to be dropped along with PVA although only having one left back at the club makes this difficult.

One way or another the club needs to get rid of many of the players who are not going to be used, at this rate our second XI will be on higher wages than our first XI.

I don't think that O'Shea is the greatest player in the world, and if he wasn't O'Shea of United fame, he would regularly be giving away penalties the way he wraps his arms around opposition players in the box - however, our defence always looks a much more coherent unit when he is on the pitch. He definitely organises things around him.

The last couple of matches, the defenders seem to have been anywhere but where they need to be.

Do you even go to our matches?
I do.

He should be playing.

Kaboul did quite well at times on Saturday. The pair of them are being left exposed time and time again.

Whey exactly.

I'm fully expecting another go at 5 at the back unless there's a radical improvement in personnel.

JOS is not one of the rotters

He needs to be back in the team and with the armband back. Obviously not the quickest player but he can organise much better than Coates and Kaboul have done so far.

we need to progress away from the rotten core

Vernon, are you sure O'Shea is part of the "rotten core"?
I assumed that to mean players who drink too much and/or don't apply themselves to a high enough standard. From the outside i wouldn't say JOS matches those criteria, not by a long way.
Getting older (and possibly more limited) he may be but rotten? Not for me he isn't.
