We moved up to Durham in 2010, the Waitrose was in the Gates........ we moved in and Lady em went shopping and returned in shock, telling us we were moving back down south post-haste....... The Waitrose had closed !

Binns was a brilliant shop mate.

Silver Service restaurant, amazing deli counter for back in the day, proper department store.

Had a little tunnel running between the two buildings.

Back in the '60s it used to be on the top floor of the building on the same side of Fawcett Street as the old Town Hall - I used to go in there a couple of times a week, for an excellent 3 course lunch which cost not a lot.
