Successfully used in James Bond films, sometimes they even go so far as using a double chop.

Anyone ever used one in a fight? I can't imagine it working out well.

I doubt it could ever be used as a finishing blow but it's occasionally been useful in sparring as a distraction to get me into a better position for a takedown, joint lock or choke.

Bond villains are also prone to using a bear hug but usually they're countered with a double chop or single chop to the neck. Anyone ever seen this used up close?

You a swimmer mate?

Delivered at the optimum speed it could easily remove an opponents arm. That may not technically be a finishing blow, but would leave your opponent significantly disadvantaged (presuming your opponent isn't an octopus)
