Kane £103m

Shearer's record is relatively meaningless imo.

Football didn't start in 1992.

Premier League records are a useful heuristic for the "modern era", but no more than that.

The record even does Shearer a disservice as he scored goals in the old First Division on top of his Premier League goals.

It would be a bit different if he was going for Jimmy Greaves' all time record.
That record will never be beaten in the current era, rules etc. There were more games a season and something like a 1 goal average more per game so more goals scored overall back in Greavsie's era meant more goals for all players. There were less subs back then (1 I think) so teams could have defenders carrying a knock which forwards could take advantage of and don't forget the keepers back then weren't as tall, nimble or even wear gloves. Aye players were tougher but the majority were also slower and no where near as good as today's defenders.

Shearer's record isn't meaningless at all as he's forever mentioned by fans, players, ex-players, managers. media etc etc and will always have that legacy. It's daft how it's cropped off his 23 Southampton goals as those seasons are still the same 'era' as such. These days people will know who the PL top goalscorer is than will know if Shearer won the league or not. The same for Greavsie as some may know he's the all time best but maybe not if he won the league or not. Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking Greavsie, far from it as he was the goal machine of the 60s, it's just I can't see how you can compare any player from say the 80s on to players from previous eras just by looking at the goals tally and nowt else, given the graph below showing how football goal amount have dramatically changed.

I posted this waffle below late last season to show that although the amount of goals the current players score are lower, as a percentage of all goals scored in the division they're actually higher than players of previous eras.

One way to get an idea of strikers from different eras is to look at what percentage of overall league goals they score. As of the West Ham game last night, Haaland has scored 35 of the 953 goals in the PL which is 3.67% or every 27th goal scored. Dean in his record season scored 60 of the 1765 league total which was 3.40% or every 29th goal so you can see just how good Haaland is and just how many goals were scored in the league in Dean's day.

That's along with Haaland not getting the full 90 mins as he's also missed 3 games, whereas Dean will have played more per appearance, probably 90 mins and only missed 3 games. If Halaand played full 90s like Dean then he may have scored just 3 more goals which would be 4% of goals or every 25th goal. This is just 1 season for those 2 players of course as this is Greavsie, Kane and Shearer over more seasons below.

Ignoring Kane's Norwich season of just 3 games, he has scored 1.95% of all league goals scored in his career and ignoring Greaves 2 poor final seasons at West Ham, in 13 seasons he scored 1.87% of goals scored in all those season. Another way to look at it, Kane scores every 51st goal in the PL and Greaves was every 54th goal in the old 1st Division. Overall starting from Shearer's first decent season in 1991/92 he got 1.74% and every 57th goal.

The goals per appearance ratio is very close for Kane 0.67 and Greaves 0.69 though chances are Kane has had less average minutes per appearance on the pitch so possibly has a better mins per goal return. Over both their 13 seasons since starting a top league game, Greaves had played 168 more games (478) by the time he was Kane's age (played 320). That is nearly 13 games a season more which at Kane's 0.67 ratio would be pushing 8 to 9 goals a season difference, or around 112 extra goals on top of his 213 giving him 325.

Like I said, different era but it shows how good Kane has been given the less goals per game overall in the league (Greaves starts at Munich below) yet still close to Greaves and the fact Kane scores a higher percentage of all goals scored in the league shows that you can't just look at the highest goals record and dismiss Kane.

Spurs should snap their hands off

Levy is known to be a **** at negotiating. And he wants £100 mil upfront + Buy back clause if a Prem club makes an offer so Bayern's offer might not do it.

Personally I can understand the buy back clause. He simply wants to never end up in a situation where Kane is playing for another premier league club.

Hope he does, sick of this Kane saga every transfer window, must have been going on 3 years now
The fact he essentially went on strike last summer to force a move to City seems to have conveniently been forgotten about by the media (Sky), who are guilty of creating this goody-two-shoes, rainbow armband wearing hero-like persona, which he clearly is not. Don't forget he bottled wearing the armband in Qatar at the last minute, in fear of getting a YELLOW CARD! ("Yeah mate, I'll stand up against human rights atrocities and say all the right things that I'm told to say on SSN and that, but I'm not getting a yellow card like mate.....no chance!"). Bit of a selfish, virtue signalling wrang 'un IMO.

Mint that

He's 100% going to Bayern, Levy just playing hardball as usual, kane wants out this time. No way will Tottenham keep him only for him to leave on a free and potentially go to a premier league club. This way they get big money to rebuild the team and also control over where he goes if he returns to the prem.

It's the best move for Kane after Real Madrid, who I thought would be in for him after losing Benzema. The Bundesliga style of play is perfect for him, he'll score around 35-40 goals a season. He is going there to try for the champions league mostly, they have a good pedigree in that competition.

Or when he was arsey about one of his “goals” being chalked off as an OG or the supposed chucking his dummy out when press were suggesting someone else for England captaincy

Take it you’re not a fan of Harry Kane then?
