Just shows

You need some luck in football. Last Saturday we were woeful and fans are saying stupid stuff about PP already. On the other hand, JR gets sacked, Watmore is back with genuine pace we haven't had. He scores v Grimsby, shows signs at Wycombe and then opens the scoring v Tranmere which was down to his pace. The performance up to the first goal was poor in my opinion. Tranmere seemed up for it and we looked devoid of any confidence. It snowballed after the goal and voila'.

The start of the second hallf was very ''JR'' , with not reall urgency or will to score again. Happy with the scoreline as Tranmere endeavoured to get back in the game and hit the post. McNulty , available again, comes on and sparks it. Two late goals when it looked to be petering out, possibly flattered us. Not saying PP hasn't made a difference, but JR never had Watmores pace available to him and McNulty has been stop start since day 1. PP may have those lads on the pitch a lot more in the coming months and it would be no coincidence that we look a different team with speed in it.

Jack Ross had to go, but Tranmere last night were a very poor team.

Yes they were. But we struggled to beat several poor teams last season, often inviting a team forward when they were there for the taking. It happened all the time, as the amount of draws showed.

Ross being an obviously decent sort of bloke does not hide that deficiency, brought into HD relief against Rotherham, when we scored after 30,secs and defended for almost the whole time until the equaliser.
