Jumper on the bridge

Some of these cases are genuine mental health issues.

Some aren't.

what do you mean? If you're killing yourself you usually have mental health issues mate.
I appreciate it wont be in 100% of cases, but its never out of the blue, there will have been some signs that that person was struggling, obviously you dont think they'd do something like this, but if you look close enough its there, its very very hard to hide everything.
mainly because its just f***ing exhausting trying to pretend everything its fine when its not.

I’ve been in the emergency services for 27 years, the amount of call outs we’re getting to people threatening/jumped has risen dramatically since these bastards came into power. A couple of years ago we got turned out to someone on the cliffs in marsden, we had 2 further proceed to’s, one on a bridge in Newcastle then one in Sunderland. 3 turn outs miles apart for people threatening to end their own lives without time to get back on station for a cup of scad. It’s a f***ing scandal.

I’ve posted this before on a similar thread. Well worth a watch

That was excellent that, cheers for posting.

His most poignant part when he said of the people that survive the fall, most of them regretted the decision as soon as they let go of the railing. Id heard that before but didn't know who had said it.

I always remember my best mate telling me the awful story of his sister and her friend were somewhere (I can't remember where) and they walked under a bridge as someone jumped from above and landed on the path a matter of feet away from them. Can't imagine how traumatic that would be and always think of it every time I'm in a town or city walking under a bridge.

The mental health services in this country are fucked

The crisis team are the worst organisation ive ever worked with
They were a nightmare when we worked together 12 years ago mate. They were a nightmare when I left the emergency services a couple of years back.

They don't give a shite about anyone. Constant moaning and making up ridiculous reasons why it's not their responsibility.

They should be completely disbanded and a new set of people create a new service to deal with emergency mental health issues.

Was a young lad there today about 3pm..@Wearside Wanderer II..don't know if you were involved..i drove past just as the police were arriving..only reason i've posted is the lad was clinging to the railings but there was members of the public there..there was a works van pulled over on the bridge and a lad with his arm round the young lad..looked like he was trying to comfort and reassure him..cap doffed to whoever that was.

Sounds daft but I wouldn't have the balls to approach somebody on the other side of the railings for fear of making things worse. Fairplay to the bloke.

Strange one like..something i suppose that's easier said than done..there was other people there..few studenty looking people and it looked like they were trying to help as well.

Was talking to someone on video call once who had a broken bottle against his throat and was threatening to kill himself with it. Managed to keep him talking until emergency services got there and took over. I honestly don't know how I would have coped if he'd gone through with it while I was watching.

I would have been shitting myself. Brave thing to do.

Heartbreaking the thought of contemplating that.
Ffs having lost 2 mates in 6 weeks before the year was out I can only hope anyone reading this could reach out to others on here If they started to get dark thoughts.

Aye the crew had a call out, person now in a better place. I’m no longer crew, knees and arthritis don’t agree with flying around on bumpy magic carpets anymore!
