Jordan Henderson

I don't get the love-in tbh.

I think he has done very well for himself and good luck to him but find him very limited, ability wise.

Average Premiership standard which is still excellent for a local lad.

To me he is the complete opposite of Gascoigne. Limited ability but a fantastic work ethic. Gascoigne had talent beyond belief but no discipline. If I had to chose one to dominate or change a game it would be Gascoigne every time.

Hope Ihe proves me wrong and scores a few against Germany.
Rubbish that fella.

Comparing Gascoigne and Henderson?

Apples and oranges. Two totally different types of player.

Rodgers said the reason Liverpool lost the league in 2013, (?) was not because Gerrard slipped v Chelsea, but because JH was suspended for the last few games.

Bollocks of course he was good. If it was purely hard work every one of us would be a footballer.

I meant compared to the rest of them like but never mind. I’m not saying he isn’t good now.

What I should have said was, at 16/17, he was nowhere near as good as the other lads and worked harder than them to get better.

100% work ethic and dedication has got him where he is and helped him accomplish what he has.

Not the most natural talented as a footballer but he has maximised every ounce of talent he has in terms of desire, influence and committed to his craft.

This is viewed as an easy thing, that anyone can do it. While there’s a bit of truth in it the vast majority of people, whatever their chosen careers, let alone footballers aren’t able to make the significant sacrifices to do put their all into their work/development.

And that mentality is a dying thing in a world where entitlement is expected rather than the total level of consistent graft that Henderson has displayed.

Lad called Michael McKeown was considered head and shoulders above Henderson as a technician at Academy level. Dedication and perseverance prevailed in Jordan’s case.

Both have played at Wembley this year - one for Hebburn and the other for England. Fine margins.

Yeah that’s how I should have worded my post.

Not sure what happened with McKeown but Luscombe was another one that was easily one of the best but lacked the work ethic Henderson had.

McKeown has had a very good semi pro career. Winning the Vase with Hebburn this year.

Nathan had a wand but mentality was wrong. Had opportunities to turn it round but didn’t happen for him. Or more harshly but accurately didn’t devote enough to make use of his talents.

No matter what the level of football, there's always someone on the pitch that looks better, but is less effective.

It’s nice to see that kids we’ve had come through have still managed to play at some sort of paid level and be a success.

Absolutely.

My point was that, while he wasn’t technically as good as he is now, he worked hard at his game and put the graft in, which says a lot about him as a player.

It takes a strong mentality for a kid of 17/18 to turn down going on the piss and chasing fanny like a lot of the others did.

Lad’s an absolute credit to the club and the area.

Just as well I was never much use, 'cos I'd have definitely pissed me career up the wall.

 what a load of nonsense, what does Gazza have to do with Henderson for a start.

Most successful north east born player in my lifetime after winning everything there is to win at club level. Should be captain for England as he’s a natural leader. A top bloke by all accounts as well.

Reminds me a lot of Paul Collingwood in that respect, both of them have eked out every last drop of their ability due to their sheer hard work and attitude.

Good that. Know someone who was in the Academy with Henderson and he said he wasn't the most talented player there but absolutely worked his bollocks off, hugely determined, made the absolute most of what he has. Good on him.

Was going to say the same. A bit of natural talent and a brilliant work ethic can take you a long way.
Henderson clearly has had good people around him like his da and Bally to instil that work ethic and he’s reaped the rewards.
Hope he can come back someday and be involved with the club.
