I know managers constantly fib, even more so during a transfer window but Pardew said on Saturday evening that he was only in the market for a striker and didn't want a new midfielder.

Also, I'm suspicious about any Newcastle related story reported in their 'preferred media partner's' paper - this story could just be setting up for a 'Newcastle beat Pardew's Palace to signing of England international' headline.
