The soundbite in the pre-match press conference was that Gillingham were "combative and competitive"....so why the "after you Claude" performance by a team that presumably were told that fact by the manager....have they stopped listening already...?

Because no matter what he's says to the lads before they go out, once on the pitch it's up to them to compete. We are a decent side at this level but seem to have a bit of a yellow streak through the team. He's got a canny job on his hands to get us up, saying that most teams won't be as tough as today. They were a bunch of rough shithouses but taking the red and white specs off you would be chuffed to bits if your team put a shift in like that each week.

Diamond was a breath of fresh air when he first came into the side. Constantly looking to get past the full back. Now his first thought when he gets the ball is to go backwards. Infuriating.
He was great down lincoln but apart from that i think he’s been poor. I think at minute gooch would be better option and use diamond off the bench against tired legs

It is f***ing bizarre like. How are we in a situation where we just accept that Max Power is a RB? This is the second CM we have had that is just all of a sudden one day a f***ing right back
It's a tool to keep him in the team. It's clear to all that he's not up to playing in central midfield. He may be a good influence on the dressing room but he's holding us back. I'm 18 years older than him and overweight but I know I could outpace him over 25 yards

I do worry this is falling into the same cycle as previous managers.

Doesn't start well, pressure mounts, no breathing space, sacked, repeat cycle.

Post-relegation, this is arguably the most pedigreed manager the club has had. This needs patience.
He’s got no pedigree whatsoever. I wouldn’t even say he was highly rated. His cv is very average . Some people though didn’t want to look at the facts they wanted to try and put a positive spin on a unambitious appointment and pretend he was this young tactical genius who goes all out attack every game.

Who do you think we could attract like...3rd tier club with no money!!

Make defensive subs towards the end of game invites pressure, got what we deserved. Wish he could have acknowledged that mistake.

He should have known that after a couple of weeks what he was faced with. Even before he signed on the dotted line, he should have had some idea.

To be fair Wright and Hume are two of our best quality players, as is ONein and Gooch and they were not on the pitch.... difference between winning and losing . That we don’t have adequate replacements is the concern

He's had enough chances to look at O Brien and realise he's a failure at this level. If he plays next game that will tell me more about the manager than the player.
Hook Leadbetter, and Scowson, and put some young legs in the midfield, it's just not working with those two.
Perhaps Winchester and 09 would be a start.

Ps, Gooch for O Brian.

Agree, it's been a concern for years that we favour number of players over the quality of players brought in. Our transfer policy can only be described like asking someone that has just passed a first aid course after 20 times of trying to assist a surgeon with a complex operation.
