We did... got Coates to partner Kaboul then kone. Then let’s put it ‘circumstances’ changedShould never have been anywhere near the first team in either of those 2 seasons. Not his fault. Shocking we never replaced him 3-4 years ago when he was plainly done.
its an improvement on where he finsihed with us..i doubt reading were stupid enough to sign a 37 year old to be a first team regular..
did we sign loovens to make fewer than seven starts? we signed four in the summer..I can't imagine they signed him to make only 7 starts. It was a pretty much a waste of time for both parties apart from John's retirement fund.

Since our last conversation on his first touch I've come up with a theory. I applauded how good it was down Rochdale, but then in the next two games it was terrible. I wonder if it was down to the pitch at Rochdale being so slow on the day, whereas on a nice pitch like ours the ball has a bit more zip to it.I'm no better qualified than you but I still have an opinion.
I think as a player he has improved this season. His first touch is better and his decision making is good. His cross for Wyke at the weekend was excellent and he's also scored a few goals. He's good in the air, good engine and never gives up. He has a lot of good traits. For a kid who was playing in league 2 last season he's done OK and is good enough for the level we are playing at.
Just lots worse.Loovens has been an abject failure in my eyes. Slow as a cart horse, half decent footballer, poor defender. Not unlike JOS really.

offred more to someone than tom flanagan..flanagan was also available on a free and only got offered a league one club..oshea got a championship deal..He was dreadful last season. Slow and ponderous.

Wasn’t a difficult acclaim to achieveBut was still our best defender by a mile!!

His decision making - jury's out for me there. Loads of times he's stood idling on the wing, not knowing whether to make a run or drop back in to give the centre half an option. I accept though that's a lack of experience in the position he's being asked to play.
That cross to Wyke - you not on about the Morgan cross?
Just lots worse.

Cattermole didn't though. He's openly said he had nothing to do with it..People don't like JOS because he stood up to di Canio. The same with Larsson and Cattermole.
JOS was a great professional for club and country and he always gave 100% you could see he was hurt by what happened here. The man had a great career and has been praised by some of the best manager in the history of the game like Trapattoni and Ferguson but Keith from Sunderland knows better than them.
People acted like the last 2 years are the only thing that matters and we should only care about that. He played for 6 season in the PL for us and we have some great memories in those 6 season. We beat the Mags 6 times in a row, made to a cup final, had 2 great escapes and who can forget the games against Chelsea and Arsenal away when O'Shea played out of his skin!
He was a fantastic player and had a career that some of the superstars of the game would have loved!
Agreed with this. O'Niens first touch is pretty decent. He's not technically easy on the eye but he still gets the ball down well.Just looked, aye it was Morgan. He's done plenty of other good crosses and won penalties too.
His first touch has been excellent on balls that have came to him on the full, nothing to do with the pitch as they didn't bounce.
He's an effective player at our level IMO.

He was 30 when he signed for us. What about those 5 years in the PL when he was key to us staying up? Are we supposed to forget those and judge him on the last 2 season here?I don't dispute some of the above. I certainly think John is a nice bloke.
However, to be fair the managers above they didn't have to watch JOS every other week grapple people in the box and run like he was in treacle when he was 35 / 36 years old. Unfortunately I did.
