John O'Shea

PVA had the same problem, and one I was whinging about at length, as far back as the start of February last year. That was under Poyet's defensive system.

As a rule I don't have an issue with O'Shea. My real issue, at the moment, is that I think barring one or two games last season he's been on the same downward slope as Brown. I'd rather stick with the defensive pairing we have at the minute. It mightn't work, but the fact is we just don't know how much of it is simply poor centreback performances, or whether it is the severe lack of support they've had from both fullbacks and defensive midfield.
You could argue that maybe change a centreback and give the fullbacks one more chance, or change the fullbacks and give the centrebacks one more chance - but don't change both because then you don't identify the root of the problem. And from what I've seen - and this is the main thrust of my argument - PVA is the main culprit at the moment.

All my opinion, of course.;)

I'll tell you. A lot of it is. Basic errors from Kaboul and Coates time and time again already this season. The full backs are a big problem, but they're both receiving zero help from the wingers and the centre-halves as well. Why aren't they being given a free pass?

The centrebacks are hardly being given a free pass, they do look rusty.
However, the issue with PVA is plain to see and has been an ongoing concern since the middle of last season.

He'd be the one player in the squad I'd expect it least of. He's a top professional and doesn't have the talent to have been at Manchester United for over 10 years without being so.

When he was at Man U he was a squad player and happy to be part of a winning setup surrounded by quality players who more than likely carried him so working hard is easy. When he had to do it here he could not. It's been said too many times so there must be something behind it.

@Teed

What a f***ing surprise, we play much better when JOS is back in, and mch more organised

Unlike the 7 goals we conceded after idiots like you wanted him dropped

Problem isn't the centrebacks.
Goal still came from a wayward PVA. The problem's the fullbacks.

We need to just get rid of him to have any chance of staying up, he isn't good enough

PVA's f***ing shocking man. Kaboul wasn't the problem either. It's the f***ing fullbacks. Invisible f***ing man, and he was lucky to get away with it a couple more times apart from the goal.

He is shocking

but we were so much better with JOS there

Kaboul was a problem, je didn't look anywhere near being fit

to say he wasn't a problem is a bit naive mate

no coincidence we were organised today, Dick got that one wrong, JOS had to start the season

We'll have to disagree. The defence still have problems. We did look stronger but by fuck we'd better have done after the previous shitshows. The fullbacks were obviously told not to stray and that leftside moron just can't control himself.
I think a lot of the onus was taken off the defence by the directness of our attack in honesty, Lens and M'Vila scared the shit out of them.

 Dopey cunt, it was nailed on we were going to play better, Would you be saying the same thing if Pants hadn't saved header JOS gifted Gomis, you know! the one were he bent down to tie his boot lace and let two of them have the opportunity, the man's a f***ing cretin, just like his little gang that take the piss out of our support and club.

I don't see how anyone can disagree that we were better with JOS in there

did you not watch the 2 previous games?

He was dropped based upon his lacklustre performances pre-season, Where Coates and Kaboul looked the best bet. This is absolutely the correct way to do things at a professional football club.

Can't have any of your golden boys not set in stone on the team sheet though, you lose your tiny mind.

You mean the one where he was shoved over by another player when he had to mark two at once?

The goal didn't come from a wayward PVA, I posted in another thread, but he was closing down Ayew, our fullbacks closed down Ayew and Montero high up the pitch all game. It was designed, that naturally leaves gaps which is why we had two deep midfielders playing. The goal came from Defoe not with Naughton, a decent run by Gomis, slightly poor marking by Coates and a solid finish.
