John Hall and SAFC

Hall was a Roker Park ST holder for years and wanted onto the SAFC board.

TC was Chairman of the Sunderland Conservative Party thus hated Hall and his politics. Hall was a Labour party member and worked for the NUM pensions dept, buying and selling land and property. Which is where he got the Metrocentre idea from, the NUM wanted nowt to do with it so he started up on his own.

Dougie Hall went to Thornhill and was one of only two mags there.

The other being a former Sunlun City centre pub manager who according to him converted a young Dougie by protecting him when he was being bullied. The bullying occurred before he was a mag so Dougies overegging his mag pudding by claiming any martyrdom.
The pub manager concerned once told me that when Dougie asked why he supported the mags he said "You dont really want to be like all this lot do you?". Thus Dougie was hooked.

Id hate to think of anyone taking as much money out of SAFC as the Halls did out of Newcastle.

I hate the bastard but that's not strictly true, the rink was fucked regardless

Yeah, I kind of thought that might be the case when I remembered it.

Still, didn't help matters.

Bit off topic but what actually went on then (PM me if you like save derailing the thread)

He was a nasty piece of work.

A friend of my aunty's had a farm Wynyard way years ago and she said John Hall wanted the land and used some very nasty tactics to try and get it (intimidation from heavies, cutting electric etc). This apparently carried on until he got what he wanted.

He sounds like Montgomery Burns

I read years ago that he bought n sold property and land for the NUMs pension fund. Possibly did so alongside running his own property empire?

I reckon theres been a fair bit of rewriting his history for the press while running NUFC. After all being king of the Geordie nation probably needs pure blood and an unblemished anti mackem stance.

He's welcome to every penny he took for what he did for the club.

I think the youtube clip puts his loyalties to bed there mate.

Oh aye for sure, the clip shot about 10 years ago when he was NUFC manager for that BBC two tribes documentary. Aye. Conclusive proof he was always an NUFC fan

*edit* loved that documentary. Had it on VHS yonks ago. Some fat mag proclaiming he hated SAFC so much he wouldnt eat bacon or wear red trousers #notobsessedmarra

The post stating it on this thread is the first I'd heard of it, I always thought Hall was a staunch Tory.

If as Id been lead to believe he'd worked for the NUM pension fund then Id imagine he'd have to be a Labour Party member. Closed shop and all that.

I may have been misinformed though.

It also shows Sunderland fans singing pro Sunderland songs yet Mags singing anti- Sunderland songs - proof positive of the obsessive nature of you Mags!

Didn't he have to show his Toriness to get The Metro Centre off the ground. Might have change allegiances- bit like the football teams he follows.

The post the skunk replied to referred to the money 'the Hall's' (plural) took out of the club.

Obviously, he views John Hall as a saint and cares to forget about dirty Douglas' deeds.

Do not give a flying one about what Dougie said to any hidden camera. I do care about the fact that his auld man rescued the club, rebuilt the stadium, delivered us our talisman of a manager and put in the money that took us from flirting with third tier football to joining and beating the elite of Europe.

Regardless of his politics, his schooldays, his boyhood allegiance or how he manages his farm. The above will always be his legacy.
