The man was a known IRA operative who engaged in several attacks on British soldiers in what they saw as legitimate war.
So what gripe can they have if he was killed by the same soldiers they admit they were at war with?
Even in war you don't shoot unarmed combattants . Unless it's total war, and as far as I know the UK never declared total war on the population of Northern Ireland .

Do you think he was bothered about British soldiers being armed or disarmed when he ordered fire on them or when he gave the go ahead for bombs on innocent people ?
