thats the thing - people would be prepared to give a team with those lads in time. We’ve got a bloated squad full of players who are no better than those above and have no potential to improve or make the step up or anything. It’s chronic criminal mismanagement from the potless shysters

Spot on mate.

This lad is first choice and scoring for man united u21s aged just 16 getting rave reviews. Selling him for £300k you happy with that?

We’ve sold (yes sold as even paul reid admitted it) about 14 younsters for pennies its borderline criminal

Wind ya neck in it simply cannot be defended

It's the reality of being a third division club. We can't be expected to compete with the clubs that are signing them.

The fees are disappointing on the face of it and when assessed in isolation. Again, it's the reality of football with the bigger clubs being able to bully ALL lower league clubs. It's also factual, not opinion, that many young England schoolboys do not make it as a professional footballers or at a high level, so it's also too early to be talking about how good these deals are financially. If they don't make, we'll have done well.

We decided to sell them as paul reid said in a recent interview. Even a parent of one has been on here about it aswell. We done nothing to stop them going.

Selling off around 14youngsters is disgusting, gunna set us back absolutely years. Least we got about £1.5 million though eh

Will pay for a new lift

none of the lads have played at first team level but everyone's sure that we've been short-changed.
People have a right to compare them to what we have now though. Hugill versus our current strikers ? I’d say he’d be close enough now and in a year from now ahead of them. Utd lads I know at the club rate him highly and can’t believe his physical presence for a lad that age. Greenwood put our under 23 almost first teamers to the sword easily enough. They aren’t first teamers because of the competition at the clubs they’re at. We don’t have that competition.

We've already spent more on fees and wages with squad fodder that haven't made any impact when we could have used some of our academy products instead. It's already a bad deal financially and that's without one of them yet making it at the highest level.

We are a league one club and lambs to the slaughter for the big boys BUT we have a right to criticise. We’ve had two goes not to be a league one club and failed at business and football and that’s only the first team. The mismanagement at all levels is what’s made them leave and I can’t believe people don’t see the big picture.

Firstly, we made no attempt of holding onto the players and were happy to receive the nominal compensation fees coming through

Secondly Arsenal have already sold Greenwood for £3m. Around the same we’ve made for ALL the players we let go. So we already know we’d have been financially better off holding onto them.

Some no doubt would have left regardless, but the manner of allowing so easily and touting them out was an absolute disgrace. They had no long term vision on this, they didn’t believe it would be their problem. They just took the easy upfront money and sold us down the river

Now crack on defending something else

Well seeing as Greenwood has just been sold to Leeds for £1 and 1/2m because he wanted to be nearer his home and your mates sold him, within a month of being here, Yes I think like most others that we were most definitely short changed.
I also most definitely believe that selling 15 year old kids, is wrong unless we as a club worked our socks off to keep them, we didn’t we encouraged them to leave.
Shambles.

I’d rather of watched a team with the young lads in padded with Bailey Wright, Willis, power, gooch, maguire and a few others in and watched them develop. A fast track to the first team at 16 year old would of bought us a couple of years with them in my opinion. And made us a shit load more money.

Might have misread this. Are you saying that every 16 year old that's good at youth level should be in the 1st team? It'd be an absolute disaster.

Completely agree. Every sunderland fan should be furious with what the owners did with those kids. The club activtely tried to offload them.way before they matured.

Hiding behind the line that we're powerless as we're in the 3rd tier is wrong. They made no attempt to keep these players. They let other clubs speak to them before we did, when we had the power to refuse them permission to talk to these players. Absolutely shameful.

It Will have long term consequences and I have an awful feeling that particular crop of kids may have had some future premier league stars in its ranks.

How do ye make them stay? How come Neil Diamond stayed?
