I've got no time for any of these kids who've left. The path to our first team is more open than ever and they all took the first chance to leave without even trying to play for their "boyhood" club. Forget about them.

I posted on here what Greenwood's ex teammate told me last night - that he'd been promised a fast track to the first team and all of a sudden Mumba was put ahead of him.
Now, I don't know how factual this is but it was a SAFC youth team player who told me and I've no idea why he would lie about it.

There's a possibility that in a two or three years England u21s have Hugill, Stephenson, Greenwood and Mumba starting for them and despite coming through our academy would only have the appearances Mumba made for us to show for it.

There's also a lad called Yankov who's a Bulgarian u21 international and been playing in Europe this season, he left before Donald turned up though.

Who were mainly responsible for scouting and bringing these players through mate?

There's more than that. Luca Stephenson signed a new contract at Liverpool, Asoro is at Genoa, Jacob Young went to Hoffenheim, Woud to Willem II, Stryjek could still have been an option for us, Ethan Robson is doing great at Blackpool, Williams Kokolo and Cole Kiernan went to Boro, Morten Spencer to Leeds. You forgot Embleton too.

It's disgrace.
Did you watch a lot of them mate? Which ones are we going to regret losing most?

Some have been at the academy since they were kids though. Years of development has been lost.
Wills be years of development lost if they turn out to be any good, they might disappear like a lot of kids do, or they might turn out to do well

pisses me off so much

we should have been building out future around these lads

Donald couldn't wait to sell

what a total utter twat

Exactly what Southampton did in league one

we have made no attempt to do this and actively attempted to move lads on

Its just awful
This is the biggest disgrace since that awful day in July 2018 that these muppets took over, the selling of our u16 kids and their futures with our FC to fill their own pockets, the worst of the worst, Without doubt these owners imo are the worst in our history.
The best of it is they don’t even want anything to do with the FC anymore, unless it’s about making them money.
As my old man would say “Tosspots, nothing but Tosspots” !!!

I think you're being a bit pious.

We all wish academy players were like Simon Ramsden and a MLF, but the truth is these lads need to have their head screwed on. Lord knows if they weren't good enough they'd be out on their ear before you could say bye. This is a job, but more importantly, it's an apprenticeship. If we looked at it more like attending a college or university we'd be more understanding of it. Aye, your dad might have grown up loving Sunderland Uni, but if you've got offers from Oxford and Cambridge and the promise of not only a fantastic place to learn but enough money to set yourself up in case it does go wrong, why wouldn't you take it?

It's on Sunderland football club to convince these lads that their future is here, that Maja wasn't a fluke. We don't know what's going on with the club behind the scenes, but the fact we're even hearing whispers of young lads being encouraged to go and forced out indicates they'd rather have the money, and when you consider that's a very short-term play it doesn't bode well.

Shame we sold them for peanuts but honestly does anyone on here a tually think we would be playing regularly up here? They probably have more talent and potential than our squad right now but they would never of been given a chance with Parkinson anyway, not with the pressure of having to get promoted this season. Should we be looking to loan a couple back?

Great news that Luca Stephenson recently signed a professional contact with Liverpool. But, there are sixteen midfields in the academy alone and there is a long way to before he is near the first team, never mind England U21’s as someone mentioned. Seeing the brightest striking prospect, since Fowler, potentially being peddled before he even got a chance must be soul destroying for the lads coming through.

There’s 14 listed on Sunderland’s academy squad list to be fair.
And categorising simply as ‘midfielder‘ is always a bit vague. You’ve obv got CDM, CAM, Wingers, 10s, not like listing a GK.
Are you referring to Brewster? I’m not sure how many would find that soul destroying. He joined the club at 14 & has had a successful youth career with them, he’s been part of Champions League squads, Premier League, cup squads, Super Cup winners, had a successful loan in the Championship & now looks to be sold to a PL side. Perhaps he just isn’t the type to sit on the bench and wait for Salah & the likes to move on, no one should find that soul destroying though.

We spend all that time and money teaching them to play the game and then we let them got for peanuts. It’s a scandal and one which needs addressing properly. Offer them contracts that reflect how good they are and how much we want to keep them. Play them in the cups let them get a feel for real matches. What a shambles we have become

If I was a parent of a child in our academy I would 100% be pushing my kid to jump ship

the place is an absolute joke at the minute

I hope I’d regret it a tad if new owners come in

I find this part of Donald’s tenure more soul destroying than the negative shite served up by the first team over the last 2 years.

How many kids have made it into our fust team in 20 years, this grow your own strategy is a myth.....

Not at this level and with the salary cap it isn't. Our recruitment has been terrible and we've spent a relative fortune trying to replace an Academy graduate who would have likely had us promoted.
Add in Gooch, Honeyman and Hume who have all been regulars (and made the step-up before this mob came in) then it is natural to wonder what the lads we've let go would have done, who were more highly rated than the above.

Wel have invested 8 years of our resources into developing these lads and let them go probably not much more than what we make at the bar on a matchday.

Maja wasn't a graduate and wanted to Fookin leave.....
Apart from that bang Fookin on......
Egan, Hourihane.....who our much loved regime let go....

Maja was signed as a 16 year old for the youth team so yes, he was a graduate, although not one we'd developed since a child but still developed.
Egan and Hourihane were released when we were a Premier League club and had to drop down and work to get back to that level. Fair play to them for doing so as well.

it was bad enough losing Maja and Asoro let alone this new lot, it’s an absolute disgrace and all involved in this shambles should hang their heads in shame.
