Re: Latest on Ji

If we get 7 million quid for him we must have Paul Daniels working for the club

Re: Latest on Ji

I've been one of Ji's most vocal supporters on here and I get the strong feeling that within 2-3 years he's gonna show the world just how wrong we were to not play him. The kid has a hell of a lot of talent, technical skill, and what impresses me the most is his play awareness and how well he links up with others. If he can learn to hold the ball a bit better when challenged and get rid of his tendency to stray offside I predict he's gonna be a real name to watch over in Germany. Great great signing by Steve Bruce, too bad it was largely squandered.

From what I have seen of him both in a safc shirt, international and for Augsburg, its a no from me. Just my opinion but he will not make it as a striker in the prem, nor will he make it as a midfielder in the prem.

'Hell of a lot of talent' is rather over egging it a bit too like marra, as is the laughable 'great signing by Bruce'

Problem with the He'll Never Make It In The Prem bollox, apart from the fact it's lazy and meaningless to say it about almost any young player who isn't regularly playing in the Prem, and that it's corollary He's a Championship Player at Best is then used instead when any player a poster doesn't like does go on to regularly play in the Prem (most hilariously misused in the case of Kevin Kilbane who had 300 Prem appearances in his career), is that Ji has already proved, at 21, that he can be a key midfielder in the most similar, and many would say currently better, top tier league in the world.

Sorry, I should have added 'for us' to my lazy meaningless opinion

The problem with half a season on loan is that it doesn't "prove" anything. Look at how effective McClean was in his breakthrough half a season. He contributed far more to us than Ji has to Augsburg. He hasn't didn't show anything like that this season. Ji is a prospect who might be consistently decent. He's not proven at this level.

aye, Vaughan was a key midfielder for Blackpool, and look at him now;)

In a passing team, Vaughan would be competent, if rather one-footed, creative midfielder. So long as you keep him away from your own penalty box he would be fine.
Certainly Vaughan and Larssen are the better players of the through ball than Alf, Gardner and Catts.

Jimmy McLean's head has dropped after the poppy fiasco, but I wouldn't be quite so quick to write him off with proper coaching.

Anyway neither of those players compare technically to Ji whose movement and two footedness is several levels above them...

I agree with the not writing Mclean of just yet like

Re: Latest on Ji

The logic in the OP seems to be that Ji is young, other world class players were also once young, therefore Ji might become world class one day.

He may or may not turn out to be decent, but he was absolute shite in the admittedly few games that he did play. I'd stick my next out and say the majority of people probably didn't watch him regularly for Augsburg and are taking the "he was class for them" off here. Not sure what all the fuss is about over him to be honest

Re: Latest on Ji

1) He is not Ji's back up at national level. After some poor form, his father asked that he be dropped from the national team and not considered for selection so that he could get his form back. He also declined to appear at the Olympics despite being selected.

Where did you read this?

1. His father displayed some shocking behaviour ranting about his minutes in the national set up in front of reporters at the airport. Subsequently, his son was not called up.

2. He was left off the Olympic squad and the manager selected Ji instead. He didn't decline to appear at the Olympics and miss a chance at military exemption.

Re: Latest on Ji

The OP has a more than slightly worrying obsession with Ji. Makes PISTON's posts about Colback seem like completely neutral.

Spot on.

Re: Latest on Ji

I reckon we should loan out the entire squad for the summer. Applying the 'SMB Law of Loaned Out Players', they'll all be absolutely f***ing incredible come August.

It's like Wickham. He was shite until we loaned him out to Sheff Wed, whereupon SMB deemed him to be a ruthless goalhound in absentia.

I for one will always cherish all those goals he scored when he was recalled.

Translation;

As well as being completely incapable of scoring goals, he can't even hold the ball up.

Not scoring goals? Was a goal against City a dream? Maybe with ever so our loyal fans...Against Chelsea? Maybe against Chelsea United in Orkney Scotland. Against our GB team? Maybe the Goof Ball team...5 at Augsberg? Wait it wasn't against Dortmund and a few teams...nah it was against the Primary school in Germany which is just one notch above our faithful MON army of Sunderland... Hmmmm Stop making some of our posters look stupid Ji! You are incapable of scoring goals playing 10 minutes a game!

Re: Latest on Ji

There is very little to go on. He hardly played for us, two managers thinking he wouldn't cut it. A third if you count Di Canio who has presumably been asked if he would like Ji to return.

It looks like he has made a good impression in Germany, and perhaps he will morph into a player worth a lot of money. But as it currently stands, if we get £3m or more for him, then the individual in charge of the negotiations on our side should at least have the decency to wear a mask.

Agree with the bits in bold
