Re: Latest on Ji

If he becomes a bargain signing that goes on to much better things for Dortmund, like Barrios or Lewandowski, will we say "we taught him all he knows" or "I don't see it me"?
I'd say we taught him fuck all. If anything, we set his development back a season.

Re: Latest on Ji

Might depend what he's coming back to, genuine chance of first team football could well alter his thinking. I'd like to see him given a chance, I've always felt there was a good footballer in him but if wants to stay in Germany we can't really blame him and would be wise to cash in now.

Yeah this for me. I cant believe though that PDC hasnt been keeping an eye on his progress at Ausburgh. My gut feeling is that Ji is probably too lightweight a player for PDC and like the above wants to stay in Germany anyway

I like Ji and think he should be given a chance to impress Di Canio in pre-season but that is utter, made up bollocks. Ji's goal against Man City gave us three points, instead of one, without those extra two points we still would have been seven points clear of the drop.

Think he means Augsburg

Re: Latest on Ji

It was hard for Ji to shine as he had limited playing time but he didnt really show much apart from the odd flash of talent. He looked a bit lightweight whenever he played and often looked a bit lost, both of which are understadable due to his lack of games and our 'tactics' under the previous 2 managers

I think he should have played more and the decision to send him out on loan and then pay 5m for Danny Graham was pretty bad.

Andy - "seven points clear of the drop" ??

Re: Latest on Ji

Not sure on this one like. Looms like we just want a quick as fuck unit up front rather than a goal scorer. I also struggle to see how this fits in and around sess and fletcher, unless these are both classed as expended assets

I think we would be open to offers for all of our existing team

Re: Latest on Ji

Latest news on Ji is he will remain in the Bundesliga with Dortmund offering 3M transfer fee on the lad. It just makes me sad that we will remain close to relegation yet again with moves we could have avoided with some insight.

Ji is by no way a world beater. But he is only 21 and how many 21 year old plays for the National Team, scores in the Olympics, scores against Chelsea and City and is the consensus the reason a relegation bound team is saved through his heroics?
Most of couldn;t even score with Amanda Jones at that age...

Even Chicharito came to United at 23, RVP did not peak until 24 and Stevie G was over 25 when he went crazy in the Championship League. Cetainly not comparing him to any of the three but he has done more than many think without even getting a proper chance. After some research, I found Korean players all need to serve a mandatory 2 years in the Army unless exempt. Ji is exempt because he won the bronze medal in the last year Olympics. His back up Son Heung Min just signed for 10M for Bayern Leverkusen is NOT exempt as he was not part of the team. Why would Ji's back up for the National side sign for 10M when his status in the Military is not clear and yet some are questioning if we could fetch even 3M for the lad? Is there something Bayern Leverkusen, Dortmund and the National Team seeing in Ji that MON and his legion couldn't see? Is the runner up for the Championship League foolish and us close to relegation much more wiser telling amongst us that he is not suited for this league? Surely amongst this madness we have to look at ourselves and say we did it again. Hope we can finally nuture CW and stop complaining about his shortfalls when he wasn;t even given a chance. Ji will leave us and wish him good luck in the Championship league next year as we will yet again fight for the drop zone and complain about CW, McClean and others while ignoring the fact we are all responsible for the state we will be in. Good luck Ji and don't look back.

Wow! Ji the savior?

Re: Latest on Ji

Just to clarify this lazy comparison that people keep making with Heung-Min Son:

1) He is not Ji's back up at national level. After some poor form, his father asked that he be dropped from the national team and not considered for selection so that he could get his form back. He also declined to appear at the Olympics despite being selected.

2) His price tag was high because of his very good season in Bundesliga following on from a good year last year. He is only 20 and is now an established Bundesliga player. Ji is 22 and has had 4 months of good performances in Augsburg, been used sparingly in England and prior to that only been tested in South Korea. Son's experience and acheivements outweigh Ji's despite being 2 years younger.

3) Hamburg finished 7th and Son was a big part of that, they wanted to keep him. Ji is not part of our plans and we won't fight as hard to keep him, meaning the price will be lower.

4) The fee was 10m Euros which is £8.5m, not £10m.

5) They're considered different types of player in Germany with Son being a forward and Ji being a midfielder.

Both Ji and Wickham are average players with potential to become good-excellent players in a top league.

They are 21 and 19 respectively.

Anyone who can write either of them off are educationally stunted.

We have had a very amateurish academy and coaching system for a long time. It's probably stunted the career of a fair few players since Reids days.

Lets hope PDC, ES and RDF fill our academy and coaching system with high quality staff on and off field.

I half expected you to ask for our account numbers and sort codes at the end there.

Re: Latest on Ji

I've been one of Ji's most vocal supporters on here and I get the strong feeling that within 2-3 years he's gonna show the world just how wrong we were to not play him. The kid has a hell of a lot of talent, technical skill, and what impresses me the most is his play awareness and how well he links up with others. If he can learn to hold the ball a bit better when challenged and get rid of his tendency to stray offside I predict he's gonna be a real name to watch over in Germany. Great great signing by Steve Bruce, too bad it was largely squandered.

Has that been translated from Korean to English?

He will do nothing, I have absolutely no idea how you have come to that conclusion.

Re: Latest on Ji

I reckon we should loan out the entire squad for the summer. Applying the 'SMB Law of Loaned Out Players', they'll all be absolutely f***ing incredible come August.

It's like Wickham. He was shite until we loaned him out to Sheff Wed, whereupon SMB deemed him to be a ruthless goalhound in absentia.

I for one will always cherish all those goals he scored when he was recalled.

Translation;

As well as being completely incapable of scoring goals, he can't even hold the ball up.
