Jermaine Defoe - Poorest signing in recent memory

Aye, he won us three points. Without them, we'd have been level with Hull and gone down on goal difference. Assuming that somebody wouldn't have nicked the goals he got, or not derailed the side the way he has.

Derailed the side? Have you seen the clip of our defence man.

Clearly not the worst - light years ahead of the dolt he replaced for example.

But he has been a massive distraction for us - because the only way he can play is if we play two strikers, and playing two strikers absolutely kills our midfield or our defence.

You're honestly saying signing the 9th highest goalscorer in premier league history is a bad move? Even if he wasn't playing he could still show Watmore a thing or two about finishing.

Didn't he score more in his first few games than Fletcher did the entire season

Being the ninth highest scorer (If true, which I'd be very surprised about) it means fuck all if he's past it (and he is well past his best), and he doesn't fit anywhere into our side.

I'm more disappointed that he didn't start today. Maybe just me but last week I thought him and Fletcher looked okay, they weren't to blame for the 6 goals conceded.

Controversial view, but his signing has been a disaster.

Not so much as a player: despite being four years past his (pretty average) best, he's still our best goalscorer and an alright player.

But he turned Poyet's grinding, but solid, team into a complete shambles as Gus fannied about trying to find a way to accommodate him in the side. Convinced if he hadn't signed, we would have ground out a dull survival, Poyet would still be manager and we'd be moving on with a actual philosophy and at least trying to play good football.

Even after Poyet, Advocaat was at a complete loss how to us him, and now Allardyce his.

He's on unspeakable wages, until he's about 63, and three managers in a row have basically admitted there's no way to fit him into our side.

A genuinely, catastrophically awful signing, which we didn't need and didn't fit, which is the biggest shambles of the whole Congerton era of awfulness.
Not controversial at all. Moronic is the word you are looking for.

That's a better way of putting it then. But that's my point. Despite being a good player, his signing has completely fucked us up and sent us all over the shop. More than any other.

What the fuckety fuck.

Contrast Defoe to the likes of Rodwell and Altidore.

The OP must be high as a kite.

Can easily play as a lone striker. Watch his performance against Spurs

More than 3. Good chance we don't beat Everton without his goal. Made one on his own against Swansea to get us a point, obviously his against the Mags and scored the second in the Burnley 2-1 win.

More about what he represents.

He's on shitloads, and despite being clearly decent three managers have no idea how to fit him into our side. His introduced actually forced one manager to completely overhaul his tactics and gameplan, which saw him sacked.

He's been a mare. Probably a poor/unrepresentative thread title from me, tbf

He may be on shitloads but he scored vital goals to keep us up so has paid for himself anyway.

Cannot understand how anyone can think he's been a good signing.

He's on a fortune.
Hes past his best.
He's average.
But he's still an alright player.

But we have fucked ourselves over by repeatedly trying to figure out how to fit him in. We haven't got a clue.

Simply, we can't start him. He can't play a lone striker role as he isn't big enough or enough of a target man. He can't play out wide as he doesn't defend enough. He can only play as part of a front two. Which we can't play as it leaves our midfield too exposed.

He's been a dreadful signing. Not what we needed at all, on a fortune, at an age where we're stuck with him.

Rowell is way worse than Defoe
