Jermain Defoe (no longer a rumour)

To be fair it’s hard to argue with any of that.
Its not hard to argue with the reasoning. However, I can assume that Speakman was happy to sign him. I would back Johnson if he thinks we can get someone better. However, if Defoe does the business elsewhere then Johnson will be shown up to be a chump.

Don’t believe the Echo for a minute tbh, its guesswork.

Big decision for Johnson though, he’ll be judged on the decision. If he doesn’t come i hope they’ve got another striker lined up instead, because we’re fucked if Stewart gets injured

It doesn't even say "according to sources in the Club" ffs. It just says "Johnson is believed to harbour reservations".

Believed by who?
On what basis?

The only people who know, are the same tiny group of people that's prevented just about any leak about any transfer since they took over. The idea that the Echo now all of a sudden has a mole in the inner sanctum of the recruitment team - and they forgot to even refer to there being an actual source - is at best unlikely.

But hey, loads of social media attention for this tweet/article now, means loads of hits for the paper's website, so job done. It doesn't matter that the article says absolutely nothing of any substance, and is pure guesswork.

Sensible post.
This is a classic case of confirmation bias, if the same paper had posted "Defoe to snub Sunderland as he favours a move to Oxford" the general consensus would probably be "The echo know nothing" "paper rubbish" etc etc

I'm not the biggest LJ fan, and he very well may be blocking said transfer, but this article is about as reliable as Hettonlass telling us that we're getting scarf pics at tea time.

If you are looking to be promoted from a less than perfect position you take any edge you can. Do you really think Defoe is past adding a decisive edge to a Division 2 side?.

He would smash us out of the league man.

I'm an advocate of his signing should the terms and conditions be right. What I doubt are the views of his detractors and odious little hacks who lift stories off here.

only about 18 games left right? lets say it takes 3-4 of those before he's fit. thats 14 games left. then he can't play every game, thats maybe 9-10.

thats a lot of disruption for 10 games - when we could bring in another striker ready to go immediately and also stay on for next year and have re-sale value etc.

I don't like LJ but can't really blame him for the logic.
Depends on how Defoe does wherever he ends up.

There is no way a deal gets that far without the manager not agreeing to it. It will all come out in the wash.

My view is that the deal could not be agreed (if it is dead) in the end due to contract length/ financials and likely guaranteed playing time, if anything.

The fact he says EXCLUSIVE is hilarious

its a guess from his press conference answer

To read the headline and you think “what’s this about then?!”

Then you read the article and you think “there’s absolutely fuck all in here to support the headline”.

I'd have either back in a heartbeat. Thing is it looks like there's a good chance we could get Defoe, whilst I don't think Maja would come back at this level.

Don't see why, he ain't getting anywhere near Prem level anytime soon after his showings for Fulham.

Is anyone else thinking that we are just looking through rise tinted glasses and deep down he won’t do what we require right now ?? Just a thought.

And give the terraces a huge boost that shouldn’t be underestimated
Get on a roll and who knows …?

Yeah, it’s definitely exactly the same in 2022 mate. I’m personally amazed Spurs haven’t offered him a five year contract.
You’re just being silly now, spurs are 5th in Prem we’re fighting for promotion in the third division

Yeah I think sentiment is getting in the way of things here- would be nice and exciting but jury's out on how effective it would be overall.
