Jermain Defoe (no longer a rumour)

Magnus over the road stating it is Johnson’s fault if we don’t sign him.

If we believe he’s itk about him not coming, we can’t pick and choose opinions about when he’s itk.

That Magnus character either knows stuff, which posters on here do vouch for him, or he’s a bullshitter.
He's a bullshitter. He guesses things and when a random guess is correct he claims "I told you so".
Hes just went off his interview there like. Clearly hasn't a clue

Blaming Johnson is a handy get-out for any ITK who jumped the gun on this.

On these ITKs who pop up every window, I don't doubt that most hear stuff. I just doubt the reliability most of the time. Put yourself in the same position. You have a mate whose close enough to know the craic with our transfers - are you really going to risk them getting in trouble to keep a bunch of strangers on the internet happy?

I can imagine that most of the info they get is third or fourth hand at best, or from other ITKs who message them. Doesn't mean that it's complete bollocks, but people should really stop hanging on their every word and taking everything with a huge grain of salt.

It's also a nice bandwagon for a minority of our "support" - who will bend over backwards to blame Johnson for anything and everything - to jump on. It really is getting quite pathetic.

If he’s saying it’s “Johnsons fault”, then plainly that’s bullshit. There’s no way whatsoever he could know what’s being said between JD and the club, or between LJ and the recruitment team.
But we all heard what Johnson said in his interview yesterday. To say he wasn't overly enthusiastic about signing him is an understatement!

He signs it off after recruitment meet. He did sign it off and we made him 2 offers..........from over the road, so LJ does want him.

Good point. If it was LJ saying no, then we wouldn't even have put an offer on the table. We probably wouldn't have even contacted him.

To be fair he isn’t saying it’s Johnson’s fault, he is saying that Johnson gets the final say and the recruitment team are keen, but Johnson less so
If Johsnon doesn’t want him, how do we know it’s at fault somehow. We don’t know the ins and outs, he is merely saying the decision not to sign him would be Johnson’s

From another thread. Plus I add theres no proof LJ doesn't want him.

39 and played no football and we're coming to tough run in. Yes emotionally it would be nice but we play a pressing game up top with pace and feel Defoe would only be a late sub , and at what cost in salary. Match fitness takes some getting for young players.

Criticism of manager is wrong , as he is thinking of football matters and not just emotional ones like the critics. Plus they would be first to say "what the fuck did he sign a 39 year old for" if it didnt work out.

If he comes great but I'm not the one having to evaluate the wages. Unless he isnt asking for much.

Just a pity Broadhead got a long termer as would like to have seen him and Pritch on either side of Stewart for run in .

You do wonder of this is a personality thing .... LJ JS are a little guys with a big egos ... hence in this dwarf off ... whose coming out the bigger man

This is correct, Johnson isn’t keen which is fair enough but he had better get us up and winning tomorrow
Agree with this.

Not a LJ knocker by any means but if Defoe is available, wants to come and we don't get him....and then we fall short in promotion this year then the pressure will be enormous and rightly or wrongly, he will be the scapegoat.

Not really Defoe related but the notion of building anything squad wise long term is a joke. It feels like we will fall into a cycle of ‘reset’ every season. Good young prospects ( like Neil / Embleton ) will get scouted and successful loan players will return to their parent clubs. Then it’s back to recruiting again in the hope that the next season is the one.

Back on topic, if the club have the opportunity to get Defoe back and decide against it then so be it. Personally I think it would be a great PR exercise and give the fans a lift when right now it feels like we are on another downer.
Dont know why people at the club, whether it is Johnson or whoever, appear to have no enthusiasm to get JD back. If I was JD listening to Johnson's interview yesterday I wouldnt be breaking my back to get back here.

However, all this we are building for the future is all well and good but if we dont go up this season (an injury to Stewart and we are reliant on AOB so that is unlikely) all the decent young players will be away in the summer.

You never look a gift horse in the mouth if some at the club arent big enough or happy enough to handle a big player like JD and we dont go up this season I hope they will be gone in the summer.

I couldnt care about people at the Club's happiness I want people to be professional and if JD wants to come back we should do all we can to get him back.

The only happiness I care about is the supporters. Im certainly not happy with the club losing mind games against Lincoln fking City and an inability to beat a 10 men Accrington Stanly.

Hopefully the latest streak ends tomorrow otherwise there will be more unhappy people.

He needed a result against Portsmouth badly before this week but he desperately needs one now. Embarrassing to think if results go against us on sat that one promotion spot might be gone as early as jan
Wigan didnt even have 11 players in the summer. Puts things into perspective.

Im all for building for the future but the days when Clough and Shankly could build teams over the long term sadly is long gone with all the money that is in the game

If we dont go up all the decent young lads like Stewart and Neil will be gone in the summer and we start yet again in this horrible league.

A short term punt on a lad we know will score goals and give the place a massive boost is just a no brianer.

If we are struggling tomorrow and need a goal with 20 minutes to go or God forbid Stewart gets injured Johnson will turn around and see AOB. If Johnson is happy with that fair enough but I know many supporters wont be.

If he's claiming it's from the inside as opposed to his opinion I guess you'd have to ask yourself how close would someone have to be to know that level of information. So soon after the event you'd imagine only a handful people would be aware of Johnson's role, that sort of crack wouldn't be splashed around. Given I'm a cynical owld bastard I'll go with the view that if you want people to believe you tell them what they want to hear. :)
