Jeremy Clarkson will remain the host on Who wants to be a millionaire

The irony is that this is exactly how people are reacting

A terrible case but not all misogynistic people will murder someone. Surely you understand this. Most will say a daft joke at work, to attach it to an absolutely awful human being and imply he did it solely because of his misogyny is crackers.
The fact that you (and the others who support Clarkson) just don’t get it kind of proves my point.

There is an undercurrent of misogyny that has grown and become acceptable. Arseholes like Clarkson encourage this in their group of moronic supporters. It is from this undercurrent that the murderers (thankfully very few of them) bubble up. The attitude towards women shown by example in Clarkson’s article and then supported by his fans is appalling.

“Oh but he was joking”
“Ah, you are not meant to take it literally”

Really??

It breeds a lack of respect for women in general and I think that is totally unacceptable. Those who trivialise it by supporting him show themselves for what they really are.

The bloke is an absolute whopper, which is a bit of a shame as when he isn't being deliberately obnoxious he can be quite entertaining and interesting - Clarksons farm was a good example of that once he started to take it seriously and not turn it into Top Gear with tractors.

Yeah. I’m sure Sarah Everard would agree with you…. if she hadn’t been murdered by a misogynist police officer. 🙄
What an absolute pathetic response to a fairly reasoned post.

Wow. You really go full Taliban because of some tongue in cheek remarks.

For the record, I've never murdered any women.

I never suggested you had done.

I’m saddened at your response. I have always respected your posts in the past even though often disagreeing with them.

Hey ho, happy Christmas.

If it was a joke why didn’t he make it clear it was?

There’s a massive dislike, potentially hatred of Meghan. He and the Sun know exactly what they’re doing. Same as Piers Morgan.

Look at the Karen’s and gammons in the comments on Facebook whenever there is any article on Harry and Meghan. It’s there to be seen. Normalising language around women and violence is pretty worrying. Why didn’t he say the same thing about Harry?

Just Jezza being Jezza!!

Hmm, that sounds familiar...

🤔

Even if it was a joke (cheapest get out of trouble tactic), is that the type of joke acceptable given how personal and dehumanising it is to one particular individual?

Also, jokes are supposed to be funny. Maybe that’s the issue we should start with.

Of course it isn’t.

I’m being very generous to him by taking the view it may have been a joke.

Don't be sad. I am very supportive of all the women in my life. My daughter is currently travelling around the world and has a great confident attitude to life and takes no shit from anyone.

However, sometimes it is funny to poke fun at people. I'm not a huge fan or how Markle conducts her life and Clarkson's comments made me laugh. Is that misogynistic?

I’m not normally one to hand-wring but I think his comments went too far like.

It’s such a weird thing to be that angry at someone who’s worst crime I can think of is being a bit self-obsessed and not “knowing her place” in the Royal setup.
Jeremy Clarkson and the Sun proved Meghan’s point far better than she ever could. A lot of women won’t have found it amusing but no doubt it’s our lack of a sense of humour about violence towards women that’s at fault. You probably think we deserve it anyway.

If he’d written this about a man, would there be as much outrage?

This isn’t meant to be a loaded question mind I’m just intrigued at how we as a society tend to view any abuse of a woman as misogynistic.

I don't think he is angry at all. I doubt he gives the slightest fuck. It's just a game.

I didn't mind him until he left the BBC.

Seems to have became a weapons grade tosser since then.

His weird cult following is bizarre too.

The specials him and the other two churn out on Amazon these days is utter shite too. It's a shame because I quite like May.
May's definitely the best of the 3, enjoyed the programs he's done by himself

Think for some freedom of speech means that some people should be able to say whatever they want, but anyone critical of what was said shouldn't say what they think of it. Not sure they realise the irony.
See if he does hate her and that's his opinion I don't really think anyone can argue with that, it's what he claims to think, it's what he thinks should happen to her because he hates her that is wrong and honestly unacceptable, I 'hate' Piers Morgan but don't want him to come to any real harm, just shut up and go away would be fine tbh.

It's obviously a joke, he doesn't really think she should be paraded through the streets. Just like Jo Brand doesn't really want to thow acid on politicians.
But like most people, he really dislikes Meghan Markle for her lies, smears, and desperate grab for fame.

I don’t think he would have used the same language about a man and I doubt many on here would have found it so amusing if he had. Meghan said she’d received abuse from the British press. I think suggesting she should be paraded down the street naked and pelted with excrement is pretty abusive. Makes you wonder how much of the rest of her claims are true. Certainly makes me and many other women more sympathetic towards her.
Any woman who is discussed on here always has her appearance judged first and some comment about how much people do or don’t find her attractive. Don’t often have similar comments about the men.
Most attacks and harassment suffered by women happen because they’re women. Men feel entitled to say things to women they don’t know and seem to think we should be flattered rather than annoyed. It’s “banter” rather than bullying or intimidation.
Not all attacks or criticism of women are misogynistic. Liz Truss was a dreadful PM. Suella Braverman has performed badly in all her cabinet jobs. Their appearances and gender are irrelevant. The men in the cabinet are equally useless but nobody usually criticises them for being unattractive or badly dressed. That’s the difference women face.
