Jeff Stelling: Bale is better than La Liga's Ronaldo

If we were to arrange a timewarp match featuring players in 1999, Giggs would piss all over the 10 year old Bale, and carry on pissing all over him for the next decade

Giggs going down the wing in his pomp was one of the finest things I have ever witnessed on a football pitch. Never seen a winger like that since.

They don't exist anymore. These days a wingers job is to cut inside and shoot from the edge of the area as often as possible. They're not able to use skill or a trick to beat their man and deliver a cross for the striker on a consistent basis. Instead they only tend to run with the ball into space or kick it past the man and run onto it.

Such a shame, isn't it?

He might get a run of games in front of goal over the coming weeks.
Lets see how many chances he takes.

Question:

If we were to arrange a match featuring only 39 year old professional footballers, would Giggs be fast again?

So which resident numpty are you really?
Typical ignores facts, acts 'thick' by just pretending not to grasp the facts or daftness of any comparison and basically is only here to generate clicks.

SBC is my guess.

Bale is a poor man's Ronaldo. Like Joe Allen is a poor man's Xavi, or something. You can draw parallels and compare their type of play, or perhaps say that Bale is Spurs' Ronaldo, but to claim he's better is ludicrous. As we all know.

As for the Giggs comparisons, if you're comparing one in his pomp to the other then you could put up some kind of argument for Bale. But that would be discounting the 20 years Giggs has been performing at the highest level.

Not even close and never will be. Stats say it all really.

I think that Giggs is talked up a bit because of his longevity. He had bad spells in his career and United were thinking about selling him one or twice but that gets glossed over nowadays. He is still fit and quick enough given his age though.

Bale has a lot going for him and has improved beyond all recognition in last couple of years, He is a handful for defences, particularly later ini games when space opens up.

BUT....Ronaldo is a truly magnificent player. He can use both feet, is very quick, strong, good in the air and scores at just about a goal per game. There really is no comparison between the two and to suggest otherwise is ridiculous and stooping to the sort of rubbish that Talksport excrete to goad people to phone in and boost their coffers.

All this article has done is given the lad license to love himself even more. His confidence must be through the roof. That should be a job for the manager not the media.

When did he have bad spells?

I remember watching Manchester United vs Real Madrid in the Champions League around 2002/2003.

Giggs would have been what 28 then?

Didn't watch him when he was like teenage/early twenties but seen clips.

I'm not saying Giggs isn't/wasn't a very good player I just think that Bale has got to his level and quite possibly got further.

He's got to do it for another decade mate and win shit loads of trophies even to be considered in the same breath.

That was a serious question.

Definitely.

Er... why exactly?

Winning more trophies than someone else doesn't prove you're a better player.

It just shows that you played in a better team.
