I didn't think it was deliberate. This came up previously so I found my historical Defoe comments from years before he signed. I've just always loved him.

When we hated Jermain Defoe....

I know Phillips did more for Sunderland, But if we had Defoe at that time, do things work out differently?

Obviously I love them both but I'm quitehigh and me and me can't decide what would have happened. I reckon Quinn might not have worked with Defoe at the time, but that Defoewas a littlebit younger given that he fell in love with the lads would have spend the majority of his career here

I would have loved to have seen defoe here at his peak next to Quinn, but there wasn't enough overlap in their careers for them ever to have formed an effective partnership.

If JD had Quinn by him he would have been prolific though admittedly Phillips was quite prolific. We got Phillipsy at his peak so i'm going for him .

The two full seasons Defoe was here (15 goals in each) was the most prolific 2 year spell of his career. In fact he's only ever scored more in a single season twice and one of those seasons was in League One.
