Jane's Addiction

I got into them through a work colleague just before they had their comeback in the early 00s. I saw them at Glasgow Green (as part of the Gig on the Green festival) and they were great.

Not many bands release a live album as their debut album! Bizarrely I believe they only released one other live album too.

I still think Nothing's Shocking is their best album. I saw them at the Riverside (missed their first appearance there) and the following year at the Mayfair and they were excellent both times.
Aye, think I was at both those Riverside gigs, first one was early 1989 then about September 90? Both good.

Saw them at the Mayfair, Primus supporting

Saw Satellite Party sometime somewhere as well but can't remember where it was

Yes, just had a look (there is an excellent gig list site) and the Riverside gigs were 89 and 90 followed by the Mayfair in 91.

Don't remember Primus at all although I think it may be down to having some ridiculous pint-sized cocktail in the Percy beforehand which would probably be illegal now. I remember standing down the front before they came on and people had pints of lager, etc. They all went up within the first 10 seconds of the first song. I was a bit pissed off, to be honest.
Me too. I missed them completely. What was I doing?
After the 3 gigs mentioned above, they never touched the NE again and it was pretty much festivals and arenas after Ritual. Even the second Riverside gig wasn't totally sold out. Nothing's Shocking was a pretty niche album until Ritual, or more pertinently Been Caught Stealing, took off.

I remember Perry Farrell saying 'why do they call you guys Geordies' and someone shouted 'cos me fathas called George' Farrell just looked totally bemused

Lad I know who was well into them went to see Satellite Party at the Academy and wanted to meet them. He's wheelchair bound so he got wheeled round to the stage door and Perry Farrell came out and met him then went back in and dragged the rest of the band out too and they did a little acoustic jam just for him, finishing on More Than Words cos Nuno Bettencourt was in the band then. Pretty good of them that like.

Very underated band imo.
Ritual De Lo Habitual in particular is a timeless classic.

Best band i've ever seen live, Nottingham twice late 80's-early 90's and a couple of times since, & all spin off's worth a listen...i'm going to be cremated to 'Jane Says'...gonna start tomorrow..

PF seems a decent bloke (when he isn't off his head). I never saw Satellite Party although I saw Porno for Pyros at Glasto and I was in Chicago when Lollapalooza was on in 2009 but only for the Friday and Saturday night. JA were on on the Sunday night so missed them although Depeche Mode were excellent on the Friday night (got tickets) and just watched a few from the grass verge at the side of the road on the Saturday as the touts were asking daft amounts and you could see some of the stages from outside the compound bit and get slaughtered on your own booze for a tenth of the price inside.
