Seems absolutely mental to be targeting a player with a shaky injury record given our current circumstances. If the £1 million fee is correct, he can play in midfield and at the back could provide decent cover. Far rather see us looking at someone who is likely to manage to play regularly.

Express.

Black Cats manager Sam Allardyce is hoping to bring in a few new players in the transfer window as he aims to help keep the Wearside club in the English top flight, and Spanish source Fijaches have claimed that a deal for Kirchhoff is imminent.

Allardyce’s men have just come off a morale boosting 3-1 win over Aston Villa the past weekend, a result that helped push Sunderland four points away from safety heading into the second half of the campaign.
And the arrival of Kirchhoff will greatly add to Sunderland’s weak back-line, with the Black Cats conceding the most goals (39) in the Premier League so far this season.

Kirchchoff was signed from Mainz in the summer of 2013 but failed to break into the first-team, spending most of his time on loan with FC Schalke.

The 25-year-old has only made two appearances in all competitions for Bayern this season.

German newspaper says deal has been agreed he will sign a contract until 2019....no idea what paper you can compare kicker too

Oh and a fee 1 million Euros
Kicker is quite a serious magazine that keeps all kinds on rankings and things. Not sure there is something like that over here that gets put out as frequently.

If he's injury prone at one of the biggest clubs in the world where you have access to the world's finest doctors and surgeons then you are going to be injury prone at Sunderland.

It's absolutely nailed on that he will be a very talented player that we love when he plays, but will hardly ever play and generally frustrate the hell out of us.

Mensah all over again.
