I reckon we've agreed to sign him but he needs an operation. Bayern said nor so we said we're not paying you then. He's garna sign for somebody else and we'll have to pay up anyway.

If he's injury prone at one of the biggest clubs in the world where you have access to the world's finest doctors and surgeons then you are going to be injury prone at Sunderland.

It's absolutely nailed on that he will be a very talented player that we love when he plays, but will hardly ever play and generally frustrate the hell out of us.

Mensah all over again.
Better to have had Mensah than not. It's not like we've done really well when attempting to recruit someone as good as him with a better injury record, since he left.

According to Bild he hasn't signed yet, but it's supposed to happen this week.
As he isn't 100% fit at the moment and has to start new rehab measures anyway, I assume he won't be able to help us instantly anyway.

It's been said, but signing someone like this is absolute madness.

I think that the reluctance to come over asap, which is what the club wanted and expected and put the deal in doubt. Reports in Germany suggest that the player would prefer to stay in Germany and is not holding out for a bit. This, along with fresh rehab could put this move in serious doubt. Must be frustrating for Sam like. I think he and the club expected this one to move along sharpish. Should be better news on the Kone front at least.

Just your opinion mate or something you've heard?

do they? I haven't found a German Report saying that. Apparently, last summer Kirchhoff even said that he wants to play in England at one point in his career.
Anyhow, I know the lad from his time here in Mainz and he has been tremendeous. As many young German talents do, in my opinion he followed the money and went to Bayern way too early in his career though. Now he's an injury prone player who hasn't played much in the last years. It's way too much of a gamble. We should stay well clear and move on

I think it is on though, so was he very good, who does he remind you of if you have watched him, playing style etc?

He's french, he doesn't need a work permit even if he choses to play for Iran.
He does if he only has French citizenship and is not naturalised .

Have you heard which players are likely to go?
Bridcutt is a definite, 3 other clubs interested from what little I do know..

if its true , I agree but I dont think BSA would sign a player who could not go into the squad immediately. He was on the bench for Bayern the last two games so?

Taken from a German website article, i do love a bit of google translate:

Bavaria Defensive Allrounder Jan Kirchhoff from has found a new club and changes according to the kicker to relegation-threatened Sunderland AFC in England. The 25-year-old will sign at the Black Cats a contract until 2018, the magazine reports. The FCB therefore receives a transfer in the amount of € 1 million The contract Native Frankfurters would already expired on the season. What awaits him at the AFC?

Relegation battle! Also this year, the team coached by Sam Allardyce is fighting back to relegation. Dick Advocaat, who last year saved the troops from relegation, already had to go. Even the weather is more likely not to be compared with that of Munich. Much wind and considerably lower temperatures are usually close to Scotland border. Only rarely climb in summer, temperatures above 20 degrees.

In a rather less from the prosperity-kissed region of England expect him for passionate fans. The followers of the Black Cats are considered very knowledgeable audience and have one of the loudest stadiums in the Premier League. Also worth highlighting: In the 174,000-inhabitant city on pilgrimage to every home game, more than 40,000 spectators. The whole right next to hated rivals Newcastle United. The defender can therefore look forward to the second half also one of the most explosive derbies in England.

Its competitors

It is not expected that Kirchhoff directly can expect a starting berth after his arrival. Its biggest competitor in the hot central defense after all, Captain John O'Shea (34) and the Spanish loan from Liverpool FC Sebastian Coates (25). Defensive midfielder his rivals are the warhorse Lee Cattermole (27) and Frenchman Yann M'Vila (25). However, the team has stability in the defense urgently needed. With 39 goals conceded in 20 games, the team is currently shooting the League. After the victory at the weekend against Aston Villa (3: 1) the distance to the saving banks is 4 points.

Thomas Helmer was already there

However, Kirchhoff should not necessarily take an example at 68-times national player Thomas Helmer. Who brought it in summer 1999 towards the end of his career to only 2 Appearances in Sunderland and ended a short time later because of recurring injury problems his career.

Then rather the footsteps of Philipp Wollscheid occur. The went exactly one year ago from Bayer Leverkusen to Stoke City and is now the undisputed starting players. Stoke has also made ordinary chances of a European Cup participation this year. If things go as the former Leverkusen, then Kirchhoff could be quite satisfied and he certainly is not the last German in the Premier League.

he's a very good and calm football player with a lot of pace, as far as I remember. Don't forget this was 3 years ago. I haven't really seen him playing since then.
He has the reputation of being, what we call in German, an "eternal talent". He was most likely bought by Bayern due to his potential rather than his actual performances. At the end he never got the opportunity to actually prove himself at Bayern, which probably had a bit of an impact on his self-confidence and at the end of the day his career.

He might come good in England, in particular in a team with a bit less competition within the squad, but it's a massive gamble
