We on here who are old enough to know had all this back in 1973/74 marra. We won the FA Cup with three very very good players (Watson, Tueart, Monty) and a couple of prospects (Pitt & Horswill). City took three of em as we couldnt offer them a rise due to Govt pay freezes introduced to combat rampant inflation iirc. Monty stayed as did one of the prospects who retired injured shortly after.
Tueart virtually went on strike. A player whod been skipping past defenders for fun then suddenly found himself only capable of running up to hem then passing it sideways/backwards. Funnily enough in the ECWC & LC games his dribbling ability which had deserted him in Div2 returned.

The players have the power and both parties are very aware that they could have career ending injuries during the next training session never mind game.
Met Tueart at the final against Man City, he wanted to stop at Sunderland but on signing a player called Rod Belfitt it showed Sunderlands ambition at that time and it did not match his, I am too young but my dad says he was gutted when Watson and Tueart left.

The lad is a f***ing idiot thinks a club like Leicester are no longer a selling club just wait until they drop out the top 30 of that rich list in a couple of years time when they're back in the bottom half fighting relegation battles

Of course, did you really feel you needed to point that out?

If we end up with about 5 players on £120k a week and everything turns to shit then we won't be able to get rid of them quick enough to balance the books but the Leicester of today are looking to buy better players not sell them.

In fact in the last 15 years the only players we've sold who were first team players are Joe Mattock & Richard Stearman who wanted to move on to better things and that didn't work out very well for them.

Just read Stearman's wiki page and apparently you lot tried to sign him, a bullet dodged methinks. :D

I've heard from a few Man Utd fans that Vardy was offered to them by his agent but they weren't interested. The same is going around with Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City. It seems to be nothing more that internet rumours but where's there smoke......

I wouldn't be surprised if he has his agent sounding out a few clubs. He has nothing to lose from a financial point of view.

Well he would say that wouldnt he? He virtually downed tools and couldnt get out of the door quick enough. Its a well known medical term on Wearside: Tueart Syndrome or Tueartitis.
To top it all off he wanted nowt to do with SAFC until the Thais/Arabs took over at City and he lost his board position/consultancy there. Suddenly he was appearing at SAFC explayers association events on a regular basis. Obviously angling for a job at SAFC. Thankfully we seem to be keeping him at arms length.

was years ago that, before we could attract the cream of the french unknown international players.

Vardy should go. He's 29 and this is his last chance to make it on a big stage (no disrespect to leicester) and for those saying he should "stay loyal" to Leicester are missing the point that they would dispose of him just as quickly had he not scored the goals he had last season. £22m for a 29yo with one good season behind him is excellent business. Rather that than lumber themselves with a guy on 100k a week for the next 4/5 years who may end up financially ruining them

It could be argued of course that you haven't had any players in 14 of the last 15 years that anyone wanted to buy. Easy to not be a selling club when your players are rank average ;)

I don't think he'll do anywhere near as well playing in a team that plays good football. Leicester's game plan suits him down to the ground, Arsenal's won't (and neither will England's incidentally).

This. Teams aren't going to push high up the field against Arsenal and Arsenal won't have anyone just hopefully punting it forward

I agree with that, he has the quality that he'll still do okay but the team won't be geared to his strengths.

You wouldn't sign Defoe and have two wingers that put crosses into him or Carroll and play to his feet, horses for courses.

Remember it well. The owner of our local of license had a big colour poster of the 73 cup winning team on the wall. As the likes of Tueart left they got a big black cross through them and traitor written above.

aren't they sniffing around Mahrez too tho ?

Mahrez apparently hasn't got a release fee. He also said he wanted to stay but so did Vardy this time last week.

He is married to a Leicester girl and she has recently got pregnant again so might not want the upheaval or am I just clutching at straws.

Well it's challenge for the board and Claudio to avoid a domino effect once one of the big ones go and Vardy is key because at 29 he can't turn Arsenal down can he ? Minimally you need to put up a decent show in the Champions League to keep the English ranking high !
