James Wilson from Man U on loan...

I’d rather just ride the injuries out than loan him. If we are going to loan a striker I’d rather a big physical type as a backup to Wyke. Don’t want him stifling Maja’s development for the sake of it.

Until Maja signs a new contract he doesn't deserve any particular loyalty from us. If Wilson is a bit better now I'd sign him on loan and play him. The time to concern ourselves about Maja's development will be when he commits to a few more years. Nothing at all against Maja, and if he outperformed Wilson then he'd rightly keep his place, but I wouldn't worry about his future development when he's shown no indication that the future will be with us

Exactly. He hasn't committed Maja, I still say he's got to work harder. Sometimes it looks like he doesn't enjoy football imo.

100% agree.

A fair point well made. However, he is unlikely to commit without us committing to developing him or without assurances of getting football. Could end up with a rock/hard place situation. But yes I agree that if Wilson is outperforming him or proving to be a better player at this point then he should be starting ahead of Maja as, like you say, we don't owe him any loyalty at this point.

We signed him?

A fair point but problem is none of us no the true situation, sure Maja was offered a new contract under the old regime which he did not take up but has he been offered anything by the new regime? It’d be a surprise even incompetence if he hasn’t been told he has a future at the club but probably agreeing a new contract has had to take second place to moving the unwanted out and rebuilding the squad. Now that the window is closing if not closed the club should be able to concentrate on sorting out not just Majas future but that of other players such as Gooch and Honeyman who are in the last 12 months of their contracts.

He’s good friends with Watmore by the way, if that makes any difference.
So was McNair so I doubt it does

All true, we have no idea why he hasn't signed; maybe the money isn't right, maybe he wants to make sure he's getting regular football, maybe he's waiting to see if we get straight back up. Regardless of the reason though I wouldn't be considering his long ten development until his long term future is secured. If he does well enough to deserve his place then by all means play him but I wouldn't play him ahead of a better option just to help his development. Getting out of this league first time of asking is vital, we can't afford to take chances, especially for players who might not be here.
