The coaches here absolutely ruined him gave him far to much to think about instead of just doing what he was good

We've spoke more about his beliefs than his footballing ability. It's seems people have decided to like him or hate him because of his beliefs. It's quite pathetic.

It's the usual posters (both sides) with agendas mate. It's actually become really dull and frankly embarrassing.

The reality is:

1) His breakout season at Sunderland was brilliant
2) His form dipped hugely the year after.
3) Despite the poppy stuff he was never chased out of the club.
4) The club made a total mess of the poppy stuff with the gutter press.
5) Even MON lost faith in him and he struggled to hold down a first team place.
6) When PDC took charge he didn't fancy him and decided to sell him to generate cash - which was spent on shite.
7) Since departing he has become a pantomime villain and has played up to it.
8) The move away from Sunderland probably refocused him and he is now a steady prem league player.

One trick pony who got found out, the poppy nonsense was irrelevant to his ability’s as a player.
It's not just the poppy saga though mate. The wanker even turned his back on everyone when the national anthem was played in a friendly involving west from in the USA.im sorry like, but if I'd been a Brit in that team I'd have twatted him,no problem.
the irony is unbelievable.Happy to take our money though, the f***ing wanker that he is.

Where’s the criticism?

Like I asked on another thread do you drink?
Only since he walked home from his allotment one day to find his Mrs getting stroked by a stranger. He just walked back out to check on his leeks.

I could take or leave the bloke to be honest. He's a hypocritical ballbag though. Happy to ply his trade in England, and be handsomely rewarded for it. Yet turns his back on the national anthem when it was played in the USA for their game there. Makes an issue of wearing a poppy on his club kit, citing the 'politics' of it. Then posts a pic of himself in his Wigan kit sporting an Easter lily. A symbol of violent Irish republicanism. FFS James, at be least be consistent.

It's like groundhog day.

I never brought up that side of things, unless you mean another poster.

Couldn't give a fuck if he wears a poppy or not

Agree. Poppygate was made into a big thing. IIRC wasn't McClean shouting about it at the outset.

A very limited but useful player. the way people went on about the poppy thing was pathetic, why we have this expectation for foreigners (he's only British if he wants to be -under the good Friday agreeement his identity is his concern) to wear them is just daft, what possible meaning could it have for them anyway. It's not like he was singing rebel songs during the two minutes silence
we did sell him too soon imo- although I remember him being entirely ineffectual for about a year when o'neill got it into his head to make him cut inside all the time

I don't remember hearing about this- it's quite difficult to do in a stadium with people on all four sides
