No I don't stand up and sing it, and I wouldn't expect him to sing it. Berk.

But you'd expect him to stand up? It's a personal choice man. If he wants to do it and take the shit for it, why shouldn't he be able to? It's his decision at the end of the day, it doesn't hurt anyone or cost anyone anything.

And what about the disrespect to the fans of the club that he's representing?

No way in hell am I trawling through 29 pages, but am I to take it that he didn't join in with the national anthem. An anthem which is technically the English national anthem.

To be fair, as an agnostic, I can't say I'm happy singing "God save the Queen".
I'd prefer Land of Hope and Glory, but even then that has "God (or Lord) who made thee mighty, made thee mightier yet".
The said, religious songs make me uncomfortable anyway so there y'go.

Do they place so much value on them that they demand everyone pay the same value?

Is he not free to disrespect the national anthem if he so wishes? Why do you want to force him to do so? Do you really care this much about your country or is this yet more outrage over absolutely fuck all?
It isnt 'fuck all' for one very good reason, it's keeping alive animosity that should be consigned to the past.

I don't think it was because God was mentioned he acted the way he did.

He's a shite player and appears to be a bit of a knob, but I find it hard not to admire the way he stands up for his beliefs.

I don't believe he has disrespected them by not respecting the national anthem. I really can't see why he has. It is just a song.

Head bowed, in silence. Real animosity there.
You know that isnt what I meant, small acts and deeds from people who are in a position to influence other people can cause big problems, they should be doing everything possible to keep the peace process moving forward. He made a conscious decision to do something that would garner ill feeling.

.

I do, he's representing an English club supported by English fans and deliberately made a point of turning away to make a point against the English anthem.
He did this in public at a time when he would normally be expected to show respect. Even leaving aside the obvious fact that this just encourages bigotry it shows a deep lack of respect fo rthem
But as you say, your sense of values are different to many on here. As are his, obviously

I think your penultimate sentence sums it up as I cannot muster up any feelings of disrespect, and I'm all for the royal family and flags being flown, etc.

So his personal values should reflect those of the supporters of the team he plays for? Don't agree with that like.

Which he did.

What, so he couldn't have shown an ounce of respect to the victims of bombings in the area his club is located?

And as for your second post, don't be so bloody obtuse man. He deliberately turned away, he didn't need to do that.

Frijj is just doing it on purpose for attention. It's pathetic.

I'd be even more surprised if the thick twat sat down while everyone else was standing. On second thoughts I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Fringe must be his son.
