Not a bite at all. It's merely that the lazy "all they do is hoover up the best County players" line that gets thrown around is so laced with ignorance that it becomes rather irksome.
We are hamstrung by the same wage cap as the rest of the counties - one could argue moreso, as your wages would go further in Manchester, or Leeds than they would in London.
It isn't a denial, it's mere facts that are easily looked up; it's just an incredibly lazy load of tripe to throw out.

I'd totally forgotten about Plunkett signing! So four signings in four years. Hardly "hoovering up players", is it? Besides which, I'd argue he's cover for when the Currans are with England, but anyway...

Not biting to you ;)
Four?
Which four of
Batty
Borthwick
Clark
Davies
Foakes
Footit
Jordan
Pietersen
Plunkett
Rampaul
Solanki
Stoneman
Tremlett
and that's just of the top of my head.

Foakes has been addressed

Whether lads were getting a game or not isn't important is it? The point was about hoovering up talent from other counties - no reference was ever made to how many appearances those players were making.

For balance.

Surrey produced plenty of their own players over the years and by that i mean those who played schools cricket in this country. But most of them are products of the public school boy system. I doubt Surrey have had a player who made it in their 1st team who went to a local state school since Alex Tudor. It can't be that difficult to produce the odd player when you have the number of " elite" public schools in your area that Surrey have. I think that is the same for most of the southern counties.

True but the most fashionable county of them all, Surrey, are producing some quality players and could conceivably provide half the England side in the not too distant future. Pope, two Currans, Virdi, Burns, Foakes possibly. Plus Roy in the one day stuff.

I'm pretty excited about Virdi and Pope in particular. And obviously the younger Curran.

Not sure the others will make it, but it's very hard to argue against Pope - he's top of the averages, young and made runs against the swinging ball. What's not to like?

The one reservation is that he's never batted higher than 5 in the CC so will obviously have very limited experience against the new ball. Let's hope then that England move Bairstow up to 4 and let Pope bat at 5.
