Jack Ross top of the league.

The players really seemed to respect him but it shows the importance of appointing the right man, not just the person with the best CV. He came from the smallest club in the SPL who were massive underdogs, had no money and had to grind out results, then overnight came to the biggest club ever to play at this level with the biggest budget who were expected to beat everyone and walk the league. No wonder he was far too cautious.

Pretty much his entire playing career playing for relatively small clubs in Scotland as well. Not saying that you need to have played at the highest level to manage a big club at all but nothing he had previously encountered in his career in football had prepared him for the sort of expectation that greeted his arrival here and the longer he was here the worse he seemed to handle that expectation and pressure.

Do feel some sympathy for him in regards to the way the club completely cack-handed the whole Maja situation and obviously the recruitment was poor from a long-term point of view, if we had gone up that squad was in no way good enough to be competitive at Championship level but he really should have won the league in 2018/19 relatively comfortably with the players he had at his disposal.

Yeah, think you can forgive the summer recruitment but going into January we all knew we needed to resolve the Maja situation, sign a brick shithouse type centre half and pace and athleticism in midfield. That's not just with hindsight either, it was widely acknowledged at the time.

Instead we replaced Maja with Grigg, brought in Dunne on loan and Leadbitter. Another opportunity missed.

Think we drew more games with Maja than without but a lot of those were early on where the likes of Oxford and Fleetwood came at us at a million miles per house and we couldn't match their intensity but came back second half when they tired themselves out. Whereas after January we tended to take the lead then turn into timid mice and let them come on to us til we conceded. That run in January and February where we drew 6 out of 7 fucked us over.

Couldn’t get a back three/five to be even remotely functional despite having Matthews and Oviedo available as wingbacks and catts as a defensive midfielder. I’d wager Parkinson would have got that squad promoted but been hapless thereafter whilst Ross couldn’t but would probably do better in the championship oddly enough.

I think if he could start again he'd succeed. Maja leaving obviously hindered us and McGeady was possibly undermining the squad.
Grigg was an absolute failure and not Ross's choice of replacement by all accounts.
We could of/should of gone up,
And agree, he'd probably do better in the championship.

Oh well, it's another season of hope.
Hopefully parky can get us promotion this season,
Hopefully buyers come in to financially back us, we'll need it in the championship.

If it is happening now and it's Sartori i hope he brings in fellow countryman Gus Poyet.

Come and perform a miyracle Gus :)

Any attacking intent he had to start with seemed to evaporate after we beat Barnsley at home, which ironically turned out to be his best result here.

21 points lost from winning positions in 2018/19
Conversely 27 points gained from losing positions in 2018/19 A bit too progressive for most SAFC fans' taste unfortunately. Deserved more backing.

Failed to get a team containing JonMc, Oviedo, Cattermole, Mcgeady and Maja to dominate games in league 1. Piss poor for 90% of the season and was carried by a good keeper, Mcgeady and Maja scoring nearly every shot he had.

Ross speaks well, seems a decent bloke and may end up being a good manager. I thought he was really poor for us though. His biggest issue would have been the start of his first season turning around a team that had become used to losing and he did well to achieve that. However once we had got of to a good start there is no way that team shouldn't have been automatically promoted. He always talked a good game but it was difficult looking at how he set his team out what he was trying to achieve other than 'give it to McGeady'. By the time he left we were starting to look really fragile with hammerings at Lincoln and Peterborough and it was only going to get worse. Good luck to him tho.

Hib's have had a cracking start to the season.

Play again tonight and should pick up another 3 points.

Makes you think.

We we're shite under Ross overall, he got lucky with Maja smashing them in early on and didn't have an answer when he left.

It's criminal he couldn't get the team he had out of the division 1st time of asking and was far too negative in his approach overall... regardless of how well he may or may not do in the jock league.
