Jack Rodwell, Scapegoat or really that bad?

He didn't do alright, he was garbage. He's had sixty games to show he's a capable player, Grayson quickly becoming the manager I hoped he wasn't.

Rodwell has been given a clean slate this season, according to manager Simon Grayson.

The midfielder scored on his first competitive appearance of the season but was intermittently booed by the home support after struggling to impress over a number of seasons.

Grayson says he has been impressed with the 26-year-old and wants him to express himself on the field.

“For myself, the staff, Jack himself - that was his debut today. People might have questioned why we played him but we felt he played well in the EFL Trophy game, he’s trained well,” he said.

“I see these players every day and I said to Jack, whatever’s happened has happened. It’s in the past, this is a new start for you and hopefully people will give you that time to let you express yourself because you’re a good footballer.

"He did alright, but there were a lot of players who did alright. I don’t like to see individuals being picked out because he’s one of all the group that care, that we’re involved in at this moment in time."

This is the problem with changing manager every two minute. Rodwells of this world get another chance! He's onto his 6th f***ing chance!

"He did alright, but there were a lot of players who did alright."

Jesus wept.
agress totally disagree on the si... clutching at straws at the very least

You can excuse Rodwell's inclusion on the grounds of Grayson never having the useless fecker play.
He has seen him now, and if he thinks picking him again is in some way a smart move, he will deserve all the stick that will pour down on him.
It's worse than playing with ten men having that spineless chancer slowly trotting around the pitch.

Rodwell is a f***ing disgusting footballer. He constantly hides on the pitch, spends most of it no more than 10 yards away from the ref. We should just pay up his contract, don't think I've hated a sunderland player as much as I hate him.
Amazing how he can run around and be a total waste, I used to be obsessed watching him whilst we didn't have the ball, didn't pick up a man, didn't tackle, didn't follow the ball, hide is a great word for it.
Going forward again no better, but we all know this by now.
SG has to bull him up, even if he thinks like us,
Would be great to hear an honest option from an ex manager mind.

He's the original nutless wonder. Cowardly, insipid, gormless, shitty, lethargic, idiotic, pathetic, minging, turgid, vacant, criminal, transparent, shameful and cringeworthy are just a few words that could be used to describe his performances since signing for us. The biggest waste of money in the history of professional football.

A clean slate is falling into the same trap as his predecessors.

Might as well start the sacking countdown Simon, these players cannot be trusted and will cost you your job.

I don't see many people in support of Rodwell (I'm not one of them), but is he really as bad as fans think or do you think he is being used as a scapegoat for our current plight?

Did we see anything in his performance against Sheff Utd?
Did his goal mask the truth or can we build on it?

For me, i seen glimpses of good strong challenges. Positionally, it looks like he is out of match fitness and a few yards off the pace. As much as i dislike him, i can't help but feel he is being used as a somewhat scapegoat.
You open up on this board sounding like a Mag in clever disguise... Rodwell is an average Championship player with Top PL wages at this club. There lies the problem
