Jack Rodwell, Scapegoat or really that bad?

I'd have preferred we gave Borini, Khazri, Lens, Kirchoff even Larsson etc a clean slate than Rodwell.

No matter how poor they were in the Premier league they looked a whole load better than the shit we saw on Saturday, and if they where demotivated and wanting off it would be the managers job to get them motivated.

We all know why everyone is off though.

Yes. If we could have loaned Rodwell out and got him off our wages he'd have been gone. Surprisingly no one wants to pay £70k a week for a lower end Championship player.

Rodwell has been given a clean slate this season, according to manager Simon Grayson.

The midfielder scored on his first competitive appearance of the season but was intermittently booed by the home support after struggling to impress over a number of seasons.

Grayson says he has been impressed with the 26-year-old and wants him to express himself on the field.

“For myself, the staff, Jack himself - that was his debut today. People might have questioned why we played him but we felt he played well in the EFL Trophy game, he’s trained well,” he said.

“I see these players every day and I said to Jack, whatever’s happened has happened. It’s in the past, this is a new start for you and hopefully people will give you that time to let you express yourself because you’re a good footballer.

"He did alright, but there were a lot of players who did alright. I don’t like to see individuals being picked out because he’s one of all the group that care, that we’re involved in at this moment in time."

Simon being good in training and good in a match are two different things. For a start, you know there will be no firm tackles coming in, in training.

Rodwell is shocking.

Literally gets in to the space where he can't receive the ball. When we lose it her half heartedly jogs back.

An absolute waste of money, a shirt and squad place.

Doesn't matter what he says, clean slate from the manager makes no difference when the supporters simply can't give JR a clean slate. Rightfully so as well, are we meant to just forget how shit and not arsed he has been so far in his Sunderland career

He just wandered around mostly into places where he couldn't receive the ball. It was a pathetic performance.

This. There was one occasion where we were a goal down, breaking forward in possession, and Rodwell ran so close to a Sheffield United midfielder (to avoid being given the ball) that the United player was actually physically pushing Rodwell away from him. The bloke is absolutely terrified of receiving the ball.

He was described by everyone that went (including perennial optimist Gabbiadini) as being rubbish even in the Scunthorpe match. Then he starts in the first team!

Worrying from Grayson. You only have to watch Rodwell and see he is a coward, deliberately avoids being available to pass to. Never seen a player need a psychologist more.

Appreciate Grayson has to talk players up in the press. I hope he hasn't said to Rodwell privately that he "did alright". I hope he's f***ing bollocked the useless coward.

Who are the group that don't care, assuming they're still at the club?

Kone, Ndong? N'dong runs about twice the miles Jack does per game.

Maybe we should bring in some players that don't give a monkeys if that interview is anything to go by.
