Jack Colback

Think a season or 2 in the Championship would do him the world of good, he is well-known to suffer from a lack of confidence which I think does affect his performances to a certain extent and he'd probably look very good in that league.
This.

I can't see an ambitious young professional like Colback wanting to bother with the championship. It might be where Sunderland are aiming for but i'd imagine young Jack has higher aspirations.

Leaving on a free because.... ...he isn't very good?
From his point of view must also be frustrating to see the likes of Johnson, Bardsley(who is playing ok at mo, but who is a unprof. toe rag) on loads more and pratting about, when at least Colback does show some heart and commitment to the cause......(except when his heads already been turned IMHO)

It's a wonderful description , just doesn't fit him , bit of ambition ( forward thinking ) on the pitch might have helped but wherever he goes he's gonna make good money these days.

I can't see Colback ever being a regular in a top side, perhaps in a Hull, poss WBA, etc. or more like an isolated squad player. Tbh he would do better to stay put, even if it means being relegated with us, it may just help him to shine in the Championship.
We need central midfielders who can score goals so I would be happy to see him go elsewhere where he can take a midfield berth and not score any goals.

Now I think Jack is a very tidy footballer. He does the basics very well which is rare this day in age.

Yet, you say he's ambitious but in 4 years now I've seen nothing from him in terms of adding to his game.

I don't see any progress in him looking to add something in being able to contribute going forward. He should be grafting his bollocks off to not give the manager a reason to leave him out or to shuffle his position.

He's simply not in the team because the others, however poor they are offer more all round and show a lot more desire to be on there and to contribute. This does not go overlooked by those that pick the team.

He must, surely, be more ambitious off the pitch n he is on it. He's been a regular in a crap couple of seasons and hasn't stood out. Rank average at his very best.

In an ideal world he'd chip in with a few more but the point you make about his development doesn't mention he's played as much time at fullback out of necessity than anything else. He's just got on with it for the good of the club.
Also, as one of our best defenders, he's nearly always the one man left back at the halfway line when we get free-kicks and mainly corners, regardless which actual position he's playing that day. That is a major factor when considering a midfielders goal scoring opportunities.
When you say not in the team he's been our top three appearances for the last two seasons.

Good Afternoon Rocky.
If it's ok with you, for this post i would like to accuse you of being scandalously economic with the truth.

What has any of that got to do with his day to day development and working on his game though?

I see no real difference between Cats and Colback really, yet one is what we needed and the other happy for people to let go.

Both offer no creativity or threat, however Catts is a decent tackler and Jack a decent passer. Yet the opinions on here of both vary massively.

In the modern game i think Colback's a better tackler than Cattermole.

I'd imagine he does everything he's told to and more.

If that is true then he needs to be moved on as he isn't good enough to cement a first team position in a poor team now and if he wil not improve it'd be ridiculous to invest more money into the lad over the next 4-5 years which should be the best of his career.
