The Colback hater has been smoked out.

I think he is a good footballer, hence why people think because he is good at left back this is where he should play, which is more down to the paucity of talent we have had in that position over the years. He must add a couple of goals to his game and start to dominate games. We scored as a result of him getting amongst them on Saturday.

Joe Allen on the other hand was largely anonymous.

Ask yourself if you could see him one of the other top 15 teams in this league and you can add Catts to that. We were shite in possession and taht's becasue our CM's are half a mile behind the forwards.

Both did a good job defending etc but as a team on the attack we are fucked. O'neill thinks wingers are supermen who constantly get in the final 3rd and deliver fantastic crosses so our forwards can tap them in, he's showing his age imo.

:lol::lol::lol: Surprisingly marra, yes i can

Put it this way, if Joe Allen is worth £15 million then so is Colback

Even Baldy Al highlighted Allen's play on MOTD the amount of simple sideward or backward passes he made when there was an offensive pass on if he looked £15m for that

Jamie Redknapp crowned him the finest player ever a couple of weeks ago.

Very accurate assessment...

this like

our only passing spells all came through wee jacky, great little footballer who will score 5 or 6 this season imo

with catts fit and jack using his ability to get forward as he grows in confidence I'm looking forward to seeing how the space will be utilised with johnson, mcclean and sess mulling behind the goal machine Fletch

Colback freezes when he goes forward IMO, he doesn't seem to know what to do with it. He is a good player but I don't think his game is going forward.

You need an optician.

With the exception of Boro away of course.

Jack Colback is a very decent midfield player, who, being naturally left-footed, provides genuine balance to the midfield. The defensive side of his game is already very good and the attacking aspect is also decent, but with room for improvement.

He also seems to be a more than adequate left-back (he certainly seems to have the ability to be better than Richardson).

Like all players. his performances are influenced by the other players around him.

When he is on the left side of central midfield, he requires the support of a more creative and productive midfield player. Sessegnon is letting him down in this regard.

When at full-back, he needs the wide player in front of him and the player on the left side of midfield to retain possession when we have the ball and to endeavour to break up the opposition's play when we do not. This season, McClean has not really done this very well (I am beginning to wonder whether McClean is now being 'found out').

Incidentally, contrary to the view expressed by a couple of earlier posters, it is not a 'waste' to have a talented footballer playing at full-back.

Sounds a bit of a cliche but I genuinely forgot he was playing until one of me mates pointed out that he had done nowt.

I missed the lineups and only realised he was playing sometime halfway through the second half.

"ball retention" players are not a bad thing, but 15m is an awful lot to spend on one.

I wouldn't say freezes, I think that's a tad harsh.

He does make the wrong decision far too often, but he's playing a very different role to last year, it's going to take him time. Give him that time, and he could become a really good all round midfielder.
