I think Colback will grow into a fine player this season. When the team kicks on and his confidence is boosted he'll jump up a notch or two.

When he got hold of the midfield, we scored but he does not do it enough, yet. He was also hampered by Cattermole sitting too deep, as were the whole team yesterday. As a general point I would be concerned as to the apparent lack of fitness of our team. Yesterday, viewed as a single entity gave me cause for concern rather than anything too positive. We must play higher up the pitch, fitness permitting.

We can't get away with two central midfielders who are incapable of scoring or creating goals and at present both Colback and Catermole fall into that category. We should be getting 8-10 goals a season from the centre of midfield and a similar number of assists, but at the moment there is nothing. This is the difference between finishing comfortably in the top half or struggling in the bottom half. Surely a priority for MON must be to improve this otherwise we will struggle.

Really don't get the hype with him at all, did well in the move for the goal but apart from that was as average as always.

should have played mcclean in when instead he went for an ambitious effort in the second half, was tidy and kept us ticking over. I was worried though as he started the game a little off the pace.

He does his best work defensively. He is over rated on here

He keeps the ball better than any other midfielder we have.

Look at how well he kept the ball in the build up to our goal despite having no options on at all.

You're wrong mate. Again.

Yeah I agree with this

Definately

Colback is a better footballer and a better athlete. And considerably more intelligent. Cattermole was lost when Colback was moved to fullback. He handed the centre of the pitch to Liverpool and we never saw him again.

I don't necessarily agree with this as I thought Catts was in front of the back four. He was the only midfielder looking to pass it forward. When Colback moved back we shoved Seb in who was non existent and Campbell on the right meaning Catts was covering much more ground :-( if anything, Gardner yesterday did more than Larsson full stop, yet he stays on the pitch. We got some decent signings in the summer, rose had an ok debut but with our lack of depth still, we have certain players who play no matter how rubbish they are performing, and they get 'lack of match fitness' excuses left right and centre.

Catts yesterday was all over the shop. Athletic and committed. How come he is up to speed?

There was a passage of play in the first half when Colback was doing everything and making lovely runs and passes. Catts made some good early tackles but then went quiet for me. Don't know if I had my blinkers on but Colback seemed to do a lot more than Rodger's love child Allen today...

I fail to see the attraction with Allen. Seemed to do nowt IMO.

thought he had a good game yesterday, but once again he fluffed his lines when he got into a position to score a goal, I can't see him every adding goals to his game I am afraid.

He wouldnt have got done for the goal like Rose did of that I am convinced

IMO yesterday we were poor in the middle of the pitch. If shelvey had owt about him he would of punished us. Colback is just not the answer for me, he doesn't really offer us a great deal and although he can be neat and tidy that's about it. He lacks vision, prime example second half when he tried a daft long range shot when he could of slipped mcclean in for a 1 on 1.
Cattermole can look ok when he breaks the play up but he's often way out of position and his tracking back is none existant. Shelvey constantly just walked off the back of him and he done nowt. Also at times regardless of what people on here say he give the ball away far to cheaply, as did colback.
I've come to accept that whatever I and some others think cattermole will play, so in that case we need someone in there alongside of him brought in January who can put his foot on the ball and dictate our game as colback for me just isn't up to it at this level.

Colback started the move that created the goal, and was dominant in the 1st half when Gerrard was really non existant. He along with others faded in the second half when we should have pushed on for the second goal rather than sitting back.Very good player though in my humble opinion.
On another note how big is titus brambles backside, has he been training or what,he needs to loose some "bulk".

In general I think the OP is utterly wrong on his view of Colback however i'm surprised so many thought he played well in midfield yesterday - personally I thought cattermole had much the better game but people seem quite split on this one.
