He really can't.

Last season Vaughan's percenatge of tackles attempted and completed was better than Cattermoles. As was Gardner's, incidently. Cattermole has not looked a dependable destroyer for some time now sadly.

That might have something to do with Vaughan playing most the season and not keeping himself from playing because of suspension, but that tells it's own story too.

Thought Colback was the better ball winner today like. Not that they had to do much ball winning...

I saw a lot more from Vaughan today and it revolves around keeping posession and also winning it back. Helps that he can fire in a goal when needed as well. Colback - it was a poor game for him. Reminds me of some of Henderson's performances last season where he's just not at that consistent Premiership level that we need. He's not far off it though, hope he keeps on improving.

No I agree. I wouldn't want to rely on Vaughan as a ball winner at all. But when the stats suggest he was a better ball winner than Catts last season, with that apparently being Catts saving grace, it's pretty damning for Lee

Can pick a pass too, good vision. Best all round, true CM we've had for a while. Not saying he's incredible or anything but perfectly acceptable, decent all rounder.

Good players produce moments in matches like Vaughan did today. Colback will never do anything like that in a game as long as I have two knackers tbh

Vaughan is certainly not renowned for his goal scoring exploits. Also he played much of his career at a low level before making the grade at Premiership level.

Not even close.

Vaughan attempted 13 tackles and won 12 of them. Colback attempted 3 and won all of them. Both had the same number of interceptions (2).

Blimey, amazing what stats say when what you're watching seems so different at the time.

I don't actually buy in to them stats as on another stat of the match 18 tackles were made (or something like that) and won by Sunderland which would mean pretty much every tackle was made by Vaughan. Plus they stated cattermoles didnt make a single tackle last week.

Only read the first few replies as I am on the bus on the way back from the game, but the guy who mentioned Meyler is right. Better player than either Cattermole or Colback. Colback may get better with time and experience.

Funnily enough, Colback has more experience than Meyler.

If I could just correct myself (I hadn't broken them down properly before on Chalkboards)...

7 tackles won from Vaughan, 2 from Colback.

from what i've seen of him he looks to be championship standard to me but thats my opinion and not really seen that much of him, would like to see how he does in a side thats playing well.

then again, i wouldnt, he's shite

This. Meyler is head and shoulders above both Colback and Cattermole, he should be back in the side.

Based on what!? I like Meyler but he's had 2 big injuries, has looked short when he's been involved this year. The Meyler of 2 seasons ago who strung half a dozen performances together showed promise.

Using the same logic we don't need a forward as Campbell will be available soon.

Or a striker as Noble has scored 11 in 4 or whatever it is.
