This is a great example of how managing a premier league team isn't as simple as most people think.

Watching the game on Saturday I concluded that the player Rodwell could become is exactly the type of player we need.

Gus knows this and knows that the gamble of keeping him in the starting lineup is the only way we will ever get that player.

If he was already playing to his maximum level 2 things would be true:

a) he would have gone to a champions league team or stayed at city

b) he would be worth far more than £10m

Young English two footed, tall, strong, box to box midfielders are fairly rare at this level of the game so we might just have pulled off a masterstroke but we need some patience.

It's the same with any big singing. Plenty of people always want to be the first to put the boot in.

Look man. He is not up to the task to be a striker for Sunderland . Makes no difference how much shite you spout.

Take today for example. No goals. No assists. Gave the ball away constantly. In fact i reckon he would have worse pass completion than our keeper. Keepers who blindly kick it towards the halfway line.

He is shit
This is why EVERYTHING you say is taken by EVERYONE else as utter bullshit spouted by a thick idiot. Keepers DO NOT blindly kick for the half way line only a f***ing retard would think that.

Like majority of other fans, I was over the moon when we signed this lad, I could never have envisaged just how poor he has been.

Yet again, the midfield and Rodwell in particular, completely overran. Early days but he looks slow and just completely overwhelmed. He needs to up his game and fast or we are going to have to drop him to the bench, not impressed at all.

If Craig Gardner had produced performances like this in first four games he would be getting crucified.

Tactically Gus got it wrong..the spuds did not play wingers and crowded the centre of midfield ( and kept cutting through our centre with first time passes), that is why Vergini and PvD kept coming inside looking for work. Rodwell and Ricky both had shakey starts and this continued for Rodders all through the game. Catts was the only one who seemed to get a grip at times the others were very poor. Wickham was isolated up front because of the spuds CM dominance, he did hold the ball well but his passing was poor.

How many games did Gardner have under belt when he came to Sunderland?

Rodwell was never going to set the world alight straight away on the back of his injury record, with such a lack of game time over the past few seasons.

Also I really feel Rodwells game would improve greatly if he had a box to box midfielder beside him, with Catts in the holding role.

I was expecting him to be rusty for a few games but I think you can tell he has some class at times during games. If he can stay fit I think we'll end up with a top player

I wouldn't read too much into the game on Saturday anyway, Spurs were superb at times and we managed to get a point. In the end we did really well as they would have blown away other sides.

We need a win. Player x is not up to speed. Player y has improved the balance of our team when brought on, and given us better attacking options. So surely you change things around and give player y a game in the starting line-up? Transfer value, potential etc shouldn't really come into it IMO.

It was no coincidence that we improved when he went off, he barely touched the ball or got involved at any stage. His close control and passing look poor, which is the root of the problem in my view, he simply lacks technique.

The lad is awful, his only strength is giving the ball away.
