Ivan Toney

erm toney might be banned when the world cup is on..so no point picking him..
Would assume (might be wrong) that is unlikely. They've given toney time to respond, then they'd need to consider the ban, then presumably there's an appeal process etc. But regardless, Southgate was 100% right not to take him because it would be a massive disruption to the camp to have that rumbling on

I think so, which was ridiculous he was punished. He's been punished for (a) daring to tell friends/family about his work life and (b) bookies deciding to put stupid, gimmick markets up about transfers etc.....

Completely different thing to any kind of in-match fixing. If the bookies are going to put books up for gimmicky things, then they shouldn't be able to twist and moan if they lost a smdige on them.
Absolutely agree. I remember at the time thinking it was ridiculous he actually got done for that.

Can't even imagine the bookies lost that much on it either, those kind of silly markets have such low liquidity that even a handful of £50 bets from his mates and the price will have tumbled quickly.

I can't remember the exact details of Trippier's case, but wasn't it just that he had messaged his pals saying he was signing for Madrid and then they all proceeded to put bets on it?

I may be wrong like

It was. He got his ban despite it being clear he hadn't benefited personally from it.

If they were match fixing I'd agree, betting on football is stupid/an addiction, I don't think either of those should be punished by a life time ban from your national team.
This.

Its hardly surprising that the odd footballer might succumb and have a few bets on when alot of them they spend their days surrounded by adverts for gambling.

Trippier shd never have been banned or even reprimanded imo...if yr marra was signing for someone and you could have had a bet on it then you'd be pretty pissed off if he hadn't given you the nod.

I know but someone has suggested the only reason Toney is being investigated is to justfy not picking him when others don't have to have manufactured situations (like the Toney one is being suggested).
They would have just not picked him. They don't need to make up stuff like this, that would be absolutely crazy (and probably libellous)

Not if he was a professional footballer and can't encourage anybody to bet on his games or transfers, you'd understand perfectly it's part of his job to keep quiet about it and not encourage you to vote

This could be a massive blow to Brentford as their whole set up is based around him. Neither Wissa or Lewis-Potter (the two forwards that could step in) are particularly similar types of player. They went 4-3-3 in his absence at Forest and were probably a tad lucky to get a point.

Exactly. I was saying it was bollocks

I disagree. Id be pretty annoyed if i had shares in a mates company and he knew it was going to tank and he didnt tell me too.

Both are against the rules. Wouldnt stop me being annoyed

Nah I disagree - if the bookies want to put these markets out there (which are stupid, gimmicky markets purely designed to feed off transfer rumours), how's it fair they get to cry about it when a player involved mentions to a friend they're moving job.

It’s the player who’s breaking FA rules. Not really about the betting company, it’s integrity of the sport. If I had a mate who was a player I’d tell them to shut up for their own good if they started telling me tips.

If I was a professional footballer I wouldn't even have to tell my mates bet on this, I'm signing for team X

I would just text saying "looks like i'm signing for X" they would do the rest

Pretty sure thats what happened with Trippier, and I can't see how there's an issue in that.

It's not a tip though is it? Its a mate updating you about his work situation.

No different to me texting my pals if I'm going for a new job. Other than the bookies are unlikely to have a market on where I'll be working on the 1st Feb

If he’s been charged by the FA and the FA are the controlling body over the England team, assuming the FA knew the charges were coming a few weeks ago, no way could he have been on the plane, guilty or not, FA had no choice I would imagine 🤷‍♂️
