Ivan Toney

Kieran trippier did the same, he got a ban and is still picked for England, The Fa not exactly setting a good example
Toney has a week to respond so it's likely he'll get banned during the world cup. Think other bans have applied to all football so you wouldn't pick a player who can only play one or two games.

Trippier has served his time.
I heard that he was betting on his own matches and his own team to lose. It’s only hearsay but it that was true, he’s looking at around 5-10 year ban.
Pretty sure there were statements yesterday categorically stating he hadn't done that.

I'm sure I read that he wasn't (was just betting on other games). Guess all will he revealed in due course. In terms of a ban, I'm sure Barton was betting on his team to lose, and placed more bets than toney. He got an 18 month ban. Toney might be looking at something around that level which would obviously be a huge blow for the lad.

Given how easy it would be for a footballer to influence a football bet, I can see why they ban it. Can't see why any footballer would take the risk tbh. If he's got a problem then I hope he gets supported and helped. Equally if the bets aren't suspicious (regularly winning random ones like a player to get booked etc) then I'd hope they would be lenient. But even a lenient ban would be about 5 months by the looks of it.

I was annoyed that he wasn't in the squad, but with this coming out now then Southgate (who I presume knew in advance) made absolutely the right call, it would be a circus and massively distract the squad if he was there

Possibly, although Chris Maguire was charged with the same offence in August, a paltry 52 bets by comparison, and I don't think that the length of his ban has been determined yet.

Aye the FA are waiting till they all have a wager on how long he’ll get.

Sammy Chapman, Brian Phillips or Jimmy Gauld

Looks like Brian Phillips played for Boro and would have been about the right age, don't recognise the name though.

A bloke was recently banned for 12 years for spot fixing in a televised FA Cup match earlier this season. Betting companies found 14 bets saying he'd get booked.
That's a more grave offence but a one-off whereas Toney has placed 232 bets. If he plays another game this season he can count himself lucky imo.

Hopefully is gets a short ban, it would be a shame to get anything more than that.

Barton's bets were all for piffling amounts even by normal people's standards, never mind wealthy footballers. But he was stupid and still shouldn't have done it.
There is no excuse for Toney, some of whose betting would appear to have taken place during his first half-season at Brentford. It has been crystal clear for some years now; no footballer may make any bet on anything involving football even if the match is (for example) in an obscure Indonesian league. Gone are the days when Merson could lose a fortune legitimately or Steve Claridge could back Manu ante-post and find himself with a conflict of interest. It's terrible news for Brentford as he could well miss the rest of this season but fortunately, after the story broke, his double last Saturday could be crucial for them.
Like others on here I'm old enough to remember the betting scandal of the early sixties. Those players paid a terrible price for their "crimes", far too severe in most people's view. There is an excellent book which discusses the events along with a chapter about SAFC's run-in with the authorities in the 1950's. It's called "Soccer In The Dock" by Simon Inglis; long out of print but copies should be available second-hand on line, that's how I bought mine having read it years before.

Doesn't matter about serving time, he was guilty so should never play for England again..

I can't remember the exact details of Trippier's case, but wasn't it just that he had messaged his pals saying he was signing for Madrid and then they all proceeded to put bets on it?

I may be wrong like

I think so, which was ridiculous he was punished. He's been punished for (a) daring to tell friends/family about his work life and (b) bookies deciding to put stupid, gimmick markets up about transfers etc.....

Completely different thing to any kind of in-match fixing. If the bookies are going to put books up for gimmicky things, then they shouldn't be able to twist and moan if they lost a smdige on them.
