I remember that he didn't want the job. I saw him ssked outright in a tv interview, he just gave a smile that told it all and got a better deal from Bolton.
You're obviously thinking of a different time to the one I'm referring to. When Keane left he was on the telly saying he'd definitely be interested.

It was before Keane was appointed, Quinn's first days in charge. I believe his refusal was the reason Quinny didn't take him later.

There will be behind the scenes knowledge from previous exchanges from our numerous vacancies that we don't know about. Short will already know roughly how much it will cost him to land Sam and it's likely there will be history between the club and Sam.

There is also the issue he has shafted us at least once to the fans knowledge.

I'll say it again, I expect Sam will use it to keep his stock high in the media but I personally don't think we will even have him on our, pardon the pun, short list.

Short will explore other cheaper options first in my opinion.

I've no issue with direct, long ball football. That comparison does Reidy and his team here a huge disservice! Reidy's teams were brilliant and the football was riveting, something that I would never level at Allardyce.

It wasn't meant to disservice Reidy's teams, you will get no argument from me on that. They were the best times I've seen as a Sunderland fan....

Aye, I'm willing to gamble. I find it preferable to subscribing to a couple of years at least of Allardyce being our manager. I'm no football snob, I think direct (hoof ball even) has its merits and can be far more exciting than tika-taka for example. I think people underestimate just how soul destroying, bland and cynical his football is and what a contemptible character he is.

I fully expect lots of the usual suspects, who I see calling for Allardyce now to be bemoaning everything about him in a few months time if appointed.

The football at West Ham was very decent in the first half of last season when it was, to an extent, taken out of his hands which was largely as a response to how poor what had been served up prior to that had been.

A few months you say? :)
