Is there a correct way to stir a cup of tea?

Anyone who's worked with Yorkshiremen will know the correct way to "stir" a cup of tea is to mash the bejeesus out of the bag- hence the expression "get mash on", meaning brew up. If you like tea strong, like a man (or woman, or half rice/ half chips as some people want to identify as these days, I'm not judging those who like strong tea) then mashing is the way to go
The expert from PG Tips said not to mash the bag because it makes the tea bitter. He was a proper human n'all, not one of them chimps.

First put teabag in the cup or mug then add boiling water. Trap the teabag between the edge and the underside of the spoon and squeeze out the juices. stir anticlockwise and repeat several times before adding milk to the desired amount. Leave teabag in the cup even whilst drinking.

I wouldn't really know as I don't take sugar or make tea in a cup.

However, don't stir it noisily and then tap your spoon on the cup loudly three times. I had to work with a bloke who did this 3-4 times daily until I broke and screamed at him. 😁

Daughter reckons it makes the cup taste better doing it that way, releases the flavour or something, but I'm just not convinced! My circular made tea has, generally, always been ok.
I beg to differ.
