Is our lifestyle worth the price we pay in ill health?

Doesn’t necessarily follow the thread content as much as the thread title but I always love this from the Dally

The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, he said:

“Man.
Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money.
Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health.
And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present;
the result being that he does not live in the present or the future;
he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”

This.

This is the second oldest saved note in my phone. I've just had a look 4/9/13 I saved it. The oldest is "Our lives are defined by the gifts we leave our children" 3/8/13

All those newer are lists for hols, recipes and nothing but stuff useful to me at a point in time.

It's strange to read it now I'm about to fall off the earth that I really do enjoy the present

One of the absolute pleasures of my life was hearing him talk live.

You're digging up old data again and could have found the answer to your question quicker than it took to type if you were really interested.

North Lincs Air Quality

A one day snapshot....f***ing hell man :lol:

I didn't read the article.
But one needs to be aware that the word "may" usually means the article is an opinion, therefore the word "may" can actually read as "may not".
Tis all.
Nothing about my opinion at all.

Maybe you SHOULD read it.

It's a worry but I'm not sure about the Newcastle proposals:
BREATHE Clean Air

It seems to be taking things a bit too far and hitting people who shouldn't be hit. There should be more incentives to make public transport for people regularly travelling for work, shopping, leisure etc., not a blanket charge on everyone.

It'll penalise people having to attend the Freeman or the RVI - both specialist hospitals that take on referrals from other hospitals. I was referred to the RVI Fetal Medicine unit when I was expecting my daughter as I had serious complications and I couldn't have done the journey by public transport.

The daily charges will also hit small business and sole traders hard. These people cannot always use public transport to do their job.

:rolleyes: Browse the site, you'll find full details of Scunthorpe's action plan to improve air quality.

So you agree that currently thousands of sites countrywide have illegal levels of air pollution, have had for years and that according to the scientists its really bad news for our health.

What do you suggest?

I know the issues have been identified and measures put in place long before you decided to share your concern.

If they bring that charge it will cost me about £1500 a year :(

It's not just the air it's the diet and sedentary life style. Diabetes will be a killer of epidemic proportions if the car bound /office job /takeaway/Netflix culture isn't reformed

Too many clueless old fucks bumbling through society as it is. Enjoy life and hop off sharpish before you become a burden. I'd have a logan's run society, especially when I'm stuck behind a shuffling old bastard in a supermarket, or tootling down the road at 18mph in a powder blue nissan micra.

:lol:

Effectively this, the west as a whole being quite smug about any changes we make all the while knowing all we’ve done is export our bad practices to some far flung corner of the earth
Most people would prefer those industries had stayed, so nothing smug about it. We make expensive changes despite knowing they make very little difference to the world in general.
