Is County Cricket Fit For Purpose?

brandon

Striker
The title of the episode of the Latest TMS podcast, which seems to be their preview of the county season. The excellent Kevin Howells is presenting with guests such as Paul Farbrace, Peter Moores (🤮) and Mark Church.

Credit to Peter Moores, he makes the very good point that there is more white ball county cricket now than there ever has been before.

So when FTECB try and tell us that lowering the number of County Championship games in a season is a requirement to improve the Test team - they’re lying.

I've never understood the argument that less red ball cricket will make them better players. Just a smokescreen to fit more money-making white ball cricket into the calendar.

Most if our test batters don't seem to be able to hang around for a long innings and in my opinion limited overs cricket is a symptom of that.

Thing is the 50 over white ball cricket we are world champions, and since winning the world cup the powers to be have changed that into a reserve team competition.

As I said about it's those running the game who aren't fit for purpose.
